Henry Hudson Trail

Awful! Go anywhere else.

September, 2020 by nwdb5kqunt

I rode the northern section of this trail on my gravel bike - from Matawan towards Atlantic Highlands - as the end piece of a 66 mile Monmouth County tour this past Saturday.

It was the worst part of the ride, by far and away, and I am including in that the section of NJ 34 I had to traverse.

There are 30, count 'em, 30 road crossings in 10 miles. Each of which requires a full stop, unclip, dismount. Parents with young children beware, the crossings are almost all at very busy roads requiring extreme caution as NJ drivers are loathe to stop for pedestrians.

There are approximately two "interesting" view moments, the rest is residential backyards and a lovely look at IFF's superfund site in Union Beach. The asphalt trail surface has been heaved by tree roots for more or less the entire length resulting in wonderful undercarriage smashing speed bumps.

Avoid this trail - at least the "northern" section - and look elsewhere. I can heartily recommend Sandy Hook and the Bayshore trails as wonderful alternatives in the same area.

JIm Thorpe to Northamton

September, 2020 by dnnyedy

The section from Jim Thorpe to Weissport was probably the most scenic as you were riding along side the old canal but also the roughest. From there down to Cementon was very pleasant riding even though there were a few steep grades. A lot of nice history on the trail. I was a bit dissapointed in the Cementon trail head. I guess I expected more than just a packing lot. I am looking forward to riding farther south once the gaps are closed.

Exquisite ride. Bring the whole family. Excellent packed gravel trail. We went north to south so really no uphill grades makes it sweet for the little ones. So much to see. Wildlife, history, waterfalls, trains, you really can’t beat it.

Monroe Township Bike Path

Pleasant ride!

September, 2020 by valbic59

This path was a nice surprise. Wide, flat, well paved path in a wooded area. All shade. If you’re looking for an adventure or challenge, this path is not for you. But it’s a great way to spend an hour or two getting a moderate workout in a beautiful natural setting.

Beautiful Park-Not for bicycles

Great park and would recommend for walking but not conducive to bikes.

West Deptford Scenic Trail

This is great for beginner hikers or for those who just want to take a nice walk. Most of the walk is in the shade, which is especially nice on a hot day.

Sellersville-Perkasie-East Rockhill Bicycle/ Walking Path System

scenic but very rough ride

September, 2020 by joelkring

We rode this trail the day after Labor Day and found it to be not too busy. The parking lot at the south end of the trail by the Sellersville Fire Company was posted for Fire Company use only. There are other parking options nearby, off of East Walnut Street (look for the sign for the,"Scout Cabin"), and also on East Spruce Street in Lenape Park near the twin bridges, there are also rest rooms there. As the trail follows the creek it is fairly scenic. There are several "feeder" trails that are not marked as such. There is a narrow bridge with a high arch that makes it impossible to see oncoming trail users (near West Callowhill Street). The trail is also in need of lots of TLC, it's paved but I was wishing that I was riding a full suspension bike, that is to say the trail has A LOT of bumps and cracks. Still overall we enjoyed the ride.

Hunters Crossing and Brayton Garden Trails

update from my 2017 review

September, 2020 by joelkring

While the trail is still very scenic considering how close it is to homes and businesses, the trail is in need of some TLC. There are cracks with gaps and cracks with bumps that run across the entire width of the trail making for a very bumpy ride. All of the bumps mean more time watching the trail and less time enjoying the scenery. Putting a coating of driveway sealer does nothing to smooth out the bumps.

Wonderful Bike Ride

September, 2020 by charles.sterne

Biked from Lukens Park to the end and back as the sun was setting on Labor Day 2020. This trail (asphalt) was in superb condition and wide enough to accommodate joggers, baby strollers, dog walkers and bikes. Those on this Trail today were very respectful of social distancing (several lawn sign reminders). More than adequate parking available at both ends.

Nice Connection to Perkiomen Trail. It gets you off the roads and it’s paved. From route 113 to the Perkiomen trail is down hill.
