Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

Some section are in very poor shape

October, 2026 by punkinpilot

I live close enough to the trail that I could ride it daily if I wanted but a couple miles on either side of Thorntown are in such bad shape I avoid it. The asphalt has heaved or roots are pushing it up so much that it's as bad as being on a washboard dirt road. The areas around Thorntown are consistently in the worst shape. Once clear of that area it's much better but unfortunately that section is right in the middle of the trail so it can't be avoided.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail

magnificent

What a gem, clearly marked and a great way to see areas around downtown Indianapolis. I’ve been to other Midwest cities and Indianapolis trail system is drastically underrated!

Monon Trail (IN)

Great ride

September, 2026 by shelleysmyth89

My husband and I started at 191st St in Westfield and rode north to the end of the Monon Trail in Sheridan. It was a lovely early Fall evening. We enjoyed the quiet ride into the country with corn and bean fields on either side for most of this portion of the Monon. It was about 16 miles round trip.

Franklin Greenway Trail

Two tales of one trail-9/29/26

September, 2026 by martinjo47

We parked at Province Park & rode east on our recumbent trikes (no suspension). Made a couple of wrong turns due to lack of signage. This part of the trail is very rough due to divots & root bumps. There is a neighborhood at the end of the trail so we decided to extend our ride by exploring it. The roads are very bumpy also! We made our way back to Province Park & continued west to the end of the trail. This part of the trail was smoother & more enjoyable. All in all; maybe a 1 out of 5.

Vandalia Trail

First time on the trail. It was very nice and obviously kept up well. Lots of amenities as far as real bathrooms or even clean and initially some shelters and benches for taking a break. Lots of opportunities for eating if that's on the list.

Cardinal Greenway

Great Bike Ride!

September, 2026 by westrichdave

My wife and I rode on the Cardinal Trail from the southern end at Richmond up to Economy. We really enjoyed the most southern end from Richmond to Williamsburg. If you walk or ride this part of the trail, you will enjoy much shade from the overhang trees. It’s not a straight path either with some turns so that it has a little character to it. The pavement is in decent shape, although there are a few bumps along the way. However, it appears that trail maintenance is trying to minimize those root bumps. We truly enjoyed our bike ride today and would recommend other bike enthusiasts to get out there and enjoy the cardinal trail.

Whitewater Gorge Trail

Beautiful Trail

September, 2026 by westrichdave

The Whitewater River Gorge Trail is short, but sweet! Despite heavy rains recently, and some mud from those rains across the path, this is a beautiful walk or ride. My wife and I found the trail accidentally at the southern end of the Cardinal Trail. We were so happy that we took this bike ride because it has lots of character and foliage to enjoy. You will cross a couple of bridges across the west Fork of the Whitewater river and wind your way down to an overlook at the end. You can stop and enjoy the stream there before you ride or walk back to the Cardinal Trail.

Great American Rail-Trail

Lovely Ride!

September, 2026 by l_digby

We rode the GAP from Cedar Creek Park to the Boston trailhead at the base of the Historic Boston Bridge and back. About 36 miles round trip. What a great ride. Smooth trail with lots of benches and several picnic areas and toilet facilities. Well maintained. Passed through several little communities along the trail. No major highways and very few little roads to cross making it very safe. Got a delicious huge “medium” size ice cream cone at the “Big Twist” in Blythedale, right off the trail. Highly recommend this ride!

Cardinal Greenway

Disappointed

This is probably one of the most boring trails we’ve ridden. There aren’t even any cute little towns along the way to ride into and stop for lunch! ¿¿¿¿

Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

Quite Ride but Too Many Root Bumps!

September, 2026 by westrichdave

We began our bike ride at the Sam Ralston Big 4 trailhead. This seems to be an older section of the path. It it’s only about 4 feet wide and has a fair amount of bumps in the pavement that make the ride a little rough, but not too bad. We rode north toward Colfax under a pretty canopy of trees. Lots of foliage and plenty of shade. From 350 W. to 400 N., the trail widen and was smoother. This part seemed to make a nice ride. However, throughout the entire trail, there are many tree and Bush branches that need to be trimmed. From 400 north up to Thorntown, the trail is awful with lots of roots coming up through the pavement. It was extremely bumpy and hard on our bikes, as well as us.

The 106

Needs Signage

September, 2026 by rma101560

I rode the Hamco Hubway earlier this year by starting at the 96th Street Monon trailhead and riding north to the 106. The trail is in good shape but needs signage when it comes to intersections. There is no signage to guide the users .

Monon Trail (IN)

thankful!

August, 2026 by jchapmanradio

The Monon Trail was the first rail to trail in this area that I was aware of. We've used it so many times since it's been built and are very thankful for it. It's not to say that it's been perfect. Few things are. It is easy to get to, and while it is crowded at times, it works as long as you're courteous and careful. There are times on the Marion County portion of it when the maintenance seems to slip. That's been that way over the last few years. Just as you are heading north out of Broad Ripple, there are several areas where the road has buckled and is unsafe. A couple of years ago, south of the fairgrounds, it was similar in that area. If you're not aware of these areas, it is easy to wreck, especially if you are going fast. Generally, the trail is very open the farther north of Carmel you go. If you need to get out for a short ride, a longer one, or to walk, it is good. We are blessed to have it.
