Ashuwillticook Rail Trail

Improvements just about done!!!

May, 2020 by HDSears

Did the route from Lanesborough yesterday, May 30th 2020, from the Old Lanesborough Mall through Adams to near the North Adams line where the trail ends right before you join Rt 8 across from Speciality Minerals. The lower end is not yet finished, but all ready for black top final and would expect it to be done by end of July at latest. Lower part is definitely passable until they start final pave. You can also do the route from North to South and cut out part of the unfinished section by exiting at Old State Road and coming into the Old Lanesborough Mall on the North end. The parking area below the Mall is closed and you must park in the Old Mall anyway. I didn't see any new action yet on the link going on up into North Adams, but if you haven't ever done so, it's a short jaunt from the current north trail end at route 8 up to where you can cut over by the VoTech school and come all the way into North Adams and Mass MOCA, but since I knew the brewery there would be closed, I didn't give it a shot.

Billings Trail

This Trail Should not even be listed as a Bike Trail - Should be a minus star

May, 2020 by HDSears

Because this is close and I'd never been to it, I finally did and what I found was something that was a very old rail path that had never had any work done to be "bikeable". The Western Section is owned and managed by a Land Trust who has not even done the work to make it walkable. Trail is covered by fallen trees and clearly, zero tail maintenance is going on. At times the only passable place to walk and carry your bike are narrow trails that leave the "path" and then return where there is a dry spot. Worse trail I've even been on in my 70 plus years of biking. It's an embarrassment and should be listed in your book or on-line stuff.

Harlem Valley Rail Trail

New sections open or nearly open

May, 2020 by billblum

Wow! Once open, the Undermountain Road to Millerton gap is going to be spectacular. I note that the northernmost section going south from Undermountain Road to Boston Corners Road, about one mile long, is now open and beautiful. The next two miles going south, to White Horse Crossing Road, includes a gorgeous mile long raised section going through a beautiful wetland. Parts, including that section, are currently paved but construction is ongoing. Later this season this will be the place to ride!!

Black Bridge Trail

A nice short trail

May, 2020 by lughnerson

I have ridden it several times. At the south end it links to the Albany Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail, though the signage is lacking. The north end in Waterford is very scenic and you can access another unpaved trail in the village that runs along the old Erie canal and northword. The best is being there for the Tugboat festival near Labor Day weekend. Waterford is a great little village.

Columbia Greenway Rail Trail

Work on extending the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail is beginning at Main Street in Westfield. It is now 2.4 miles long and any extension will be greatly appreciated. The downtown extension insures that the new section will be heavily used. The rest of the trail is in excellent condition.

Ashuelot Recreational Rail Trail

Beautiful ride from Keene

May, 2020 by tamasinewc

Today my husband and I took the trail from Keene and went 6 miles before turning back just due to our own time constraints. The trail is used but not crowded. It is excellent for bikes BUT not skinny wheel bikes! Also the bridge is out in Keene so begin the trail at 110 Krif Rd, Keene, NH 03431 by the Keene State Athletic Field. There is parking and the trail is right there. We had a great time and will do it again in the future.

Erie Canalway Trail

My favorite section of the Erie Canal is when I bike from Tow path in Pittsford to Long Pond in Greece where the gravel begins. The whole trail is asphalt and it's really smooth. It's a good 30 miles I would say.

Bog Meadow Brook Nature Trail

beautiful big trail, but also difficult for bikes

April, 2020 by logan_brennan

Took a walk on this with my 4-year old daughter. The bog-half of this trail is beautiful; nice boardwalks get you close to some wetlands and wind you through the bog. The other 2/3 is a straight rail trail that still has tracks buried in the path, which can be uncomfortable at times and definitely prevent bikes and scooters (if you’re looking to bring your little one on their bike). Our toddler made it 3/4 of the way one way before wanting to head back, so we didn’t see the other end.

Spring Run Trail

great short walk for kids

April, 2020 by logan_brennan

Did this walk yesterday with my 4 year old on her scooter and my wife jogging next to her. One mile in and one mile out of well-maintained over trail. Nice mix of woods and wetlands. Perfect springtime trail to see and hear all the birds. The beer distributor near the trailhead was a bonus!
