This is a fun trail for walkers, runners, families, bikes, and E–bikes. The trail is picturesque and interesting so you don’t get bored easily. I can’t get busy on weekends, but if you go at the right hour, hopefully you’ll be able to do the path without too much congestion. For an in–city trail, this one gets five stars.
My hub and I parked one of our cars at Celeste HS and the other at the Farmersville Trailhead parking lot. Starting at 8:10am from the trailhead, we hiked the 13.2 miles. We are in moderate shape and our feet were dead when we reached the high school around 1pm. I have large blisters on the outside of each foot and hub has blisters on both of his achiles tendons. The trail was great. It was clean and had many benches and trashcans within 3 miles of the trailhead. The trail crosses many streets and many bridges. The trees shade a majority of the trail. There aren't any benches between Merit and Celeste and much of the trail is rocky.
Beautiful walk, lots of wildlife Beaver, stork, crane, ducks, turtles, and of course rabbits and squirrels. Lots of birds chirping too
Perhaps the negative reviews were also about things not being completed but at least for me. I really enjoyed this trail. Apart from having to stop at crossroads where there is a lot of traffic it is smooth, very cynic from current to a little past Lake Louisville. I used to riding in Dallas from Oakcliff to the Trinity river, so this is very enjoyable.
Started on the trail in Farmersville. It's a quaint town with parking right a the trail head. The first couple of miles were well-maintained and paved. Then the trail switched to crushed rock. Still able to cycle but had to watch out for holes in the path and uneven transitions to bridges. Then right where the trail crossed FM2194, the trail turned into two tire ruts just filled with large rocks. Passable by mountain bike but not on my street bike.
This is a nice paved trail that stretches a decent chuck of the McKinney suburbs. Plenty of places to split off and hit a store if you need some quick fuel or hydration.
Love these trails. Always so crowded and paths are very narrow.
We loved this hike. The wide trails so it was easy to pass other people on bikes or with dogs. Very clean. A hidden treasure. We loved it. Wish I would have found this before I lost my Golden he would have loved it.
Started it at the very nice New Boston trailhead and after 3 miles the asphalt disappears into dirt and grass. It’s very doable on a gravel or mt. bike but this is not a paved greenway by any means. Hopefully it eventually becomes one.
I’ve been here a few types to walk and it is a great spot. Plenty of shade with great overlooks and nature views. There are usually a lot of people walking so I never felt unsafe. But the amount of people that make walking great, is exactly why this is a terrible place to bike. I tried biking here and was constantly stopping because the “traffic” was so heavy that there was no way to pass the people safely. There is also a park for kids, decent bathrooms, and water fountains.
Drove up to the Farmersville trailhead and left from the Onion Shed. Lots of cracked pavement for the first segment (~1 mile). Good concrete segment for next mile or so. Then it’s crushed granite with some washout in sections. Turned around after ~5 miles at FM2149 as trail surface was crushed gravel and very rough ride.
