A beautiful 3+ mile paved trail along the New River for walkers and bikers. This trail is in the City or Radford but it feels like you are in the countryside. Don't miss the section that turns away from the river towards "Connellys run" - a small stream that runs to the New. This section runs through a small valley with wild flowers, forest trees and plants all around and includes an arched railroad underpass, a tunnel under Lee Highway and 3 small cool wooden bridges that cross the stream. There are unpaved side trails off the paved trial that are available to explore the mountainside. Nice restaurants for food & drink and hotels nearby.
Paved, seems relatively safe. Parking at the Cinema a bit sketchy.
The linear park in southwest Virginia with 57.7 miles of beautiful natural scenery, provides a wonderful biking experience! In our opinion, the New River Trail is one of the top rail trails we have ridden in the U.S. We did a YouTube video of our ride that you can find on our channel, Bent on Bike Trails.
The Huckleberry Trail is the result of a partnership between Christiansburg, Blacksburg and Montgomery County that provides a beautiful paved greenway for bikers, runners and walkers. Note...it is not a rail trail, there are hills! We did a YouTube video of our ride that you can find on our channel, Bent on Bike Trails.
We rode the trail from Galax to Pulaski and back in 3 days. The trail is very beautiful flat on the Galax end and slight inclines on the Pulaski side. The gravel surface was in good shape and the restrooms are well maintained. My favorite section was the Fries spur. D Myers
We loved this trail. Relatively flat and really pretty.
Rode this on 10/5/20 with friends. Mountain bike a must. Trail in poor condition. Numerous fallen trees, long grass, and muddy patches on this short old elevated rail track through the woods. With a little maintenance this could be spectacular.
More signage would have been nice but getting a bit lost was all part of the fun. It’s ALOT of uphill if you start downtown. I started at Valley View... parked near Best Buy. We took two cars to avoid the uphills on the return. Just beautiful!
My husband and I took a mini vacay to this area to bike this trail. It was truly gorgeous. We started in Galax and biked 17 miles in and then turned back around. On the way back, it is an uphill climb. Keep that in mind if you have kids with you, or you’re new to biking. On this route you will go through a tunnel and over a bridge, see numerous waterfalls, rapids, and the dam. It was a remote but very well maintained trail. Would definitely love to go back to bike some of the other areas of it!
Runs along the New River, and is very peaceful. I parked in Bissett Park.
