Cape Henry Trail

June, 2021 by elizabeth.lucci

This is a real trail, the end near the beach is the best part, but if your looking for a trail to ride bikes on this one is it. I walked the whole thing to the end and back to the beginning. I would recommend a bike!

Dismal Swamp Canal Trail (VA)

Nice out and back

May, 2021 by sandymo

Easy 22 miler from the local park to the end and back. The trail is well paved and flat as a pancake with 33 deer if climbing over the 22 miles. Plenty of farms working and good views of the canal and water lily flowers. There were some historical signs providing information on the area and canal. This is a good trail to roll along and get some exercise. It ends abruptly with a little turnaround. Sure wish it was connected to the NC trail fir more miles.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Great Trail

May, 2021 by rolandhendrix

I live about 4 miles from the trail so my wife and I decided to try it out. We ran the whole trail which is about a 7 mile round trip give or take where you start from. It was mostly nice and shady with a light breeze. Areas where there were no trees allowed the sun to hit you but today was only 72 degrees. I highly recommend this trail!!

First Ride

Excellent trail and well maintained park. I just rode two hours on a lovely Saturday and counted only a dozen other riders. Highly recommend this easy ride if five miles for new bikers as the flat and wide trail was an easy way to get started.

Virginia Capital Trail

Nice trail, but facilities are limited

April, 2021 by dcsnyder

Nicely paved trail, mostly flat from Jamestown to Charles City except the bridge over a river. Rolling hills as you go towards Richmond. We did a two day ride from Jamestown to Richmond, then the next day back. Richmond along the river is beautiful. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Downtown, just a few blocks from the start of the trail.
The only reason for four stars as facilities, like rest rooms and shelter are very minimal. Some trailheads that have rest rooms, could be a mile off the trail.

Great Shiplock Park out & back

April, 2021 by sandymo

Great 40 mile ride on the trail today. Not much parking at the park, but found ParkMobile parking a few blocks away in Shockoe Bottom. There’s a few more minor hills at this end, but we picked up less than 1,000ft of climbing in the 40 miles and nothing was over 6%. It’s not a big deal for anything with gears, but certainly not for a beach cruiser or an old 3speed. The scenery was great and the trail wasn’t crowded during the week. We grabbed dinner at Hot Chicks and would recommend the Nashville style Hot Chichen. The trail is awesome and well maintained. I especially liked the mile posts each mile and the many historical plaques.

Doesn’t get much better

We’re full-time RVers staying at the Newport News Park Campsites for a few nights. What a pleasant surprise to find this awesome and easily accessible trail near our campsite. Once we got on the trail so glad we turned off at the George Washington Headquarters sign. We then enjoyed a “Historic Tour” of the Colonial National Historic Park (NPS). Easy, flat loop.

OUTSTANDING TANDEM BIKE TRAIL

March, 2021 by utpaduke

My wife and I rode this trail on March 9-10-11. It was Straight as an arrow and Flat as a pancake! My wife and I always explore new rail-trails as we travel... Normally we do 6 miles out and back. But this time, my wife said she was willing to go to the end of the trail! We parked @ the main parking lot right off of Hwy 17. Each day we did a round-trip of a bit over 17miles! Two beautiful bathrooms about 3.5miles apart. Two awesome JD 6600 Combines and some other old farm vehicles hidden in the woods! This is a beautiful and serene riding location at any time of the day! We stayed @ the HIExpress-Chesapeake; about 8 miles away. The only bear we saw was Ches A. Peake, the wooden mascot @ the trail entrance!

This bike loop is perfect for a morning workout through the picturesque woods. We typically ride the loop twice to extend it.

Virginia Capital Trail

You know you want to ride it!

A wonderful 50 mile, paved, off road bike trail between Jamestown (first capital) and Richmond (current capital), Virginia! We did a video of our ride this fall that is on our YouTube channel, Bent on Bike Trails.

Elizabeth River Trail (Atlantic City Spur)

Disappointing

November, 2020 by 4myrott

This is not an easy ride on a bike. Parked at Harbor Park the route runs along the Waterside waterfront which is nice but you have to dodge a lot of walkers, sight seeing people. Then it twists and turns and signage could be better. Once you get out of the Waterside area it’s sidewalks some rather narrow. Again dodging lots of walkers. I disliked this so much that about 3.5 miles in I turned around and left. It’s not a dedicated bike path, the city just put up some signs along sidewalks. This was no fun.
