There's a fair amount of road crossings here, but it's otherwise a very good trail.
It's a completely sunny trail, so break out the sunscreen/long sleeved shirts for this one.
The trail elevates you to the point where you will feel like you're on top of an actual levee.
You'll be seeing boat docks for the most part, so there isn't too much to see.
Discovered this comfortable place with great accommodations for two bike travelers. They offer a pullout sofa if you do not wish to share a bed. Indoor bike storage with a comfy bed and a hot shower! Distillery right next-door and two restaurants to fuel up in the morning to get back on the trail. Close to the panhandle of West Virginia. Their name is Harmony Trail Haven on Airbnb.
The paved trail has not been maintained and is frequently interrupted by bursting roots. Lots of homeless in the area and trash on the trail. There are much better ones in Indy…
Highly recommend this beautiful and well kept trail. Beautiful to ride along the trees and over the 2 epic ohiopyle bridges.
Great connector on Pennsy - takes you through Cumberland and some nice neighborhoods!
I use this trail once a week or so to ride from Zionsville to the Monon, as it is, to my knowledge, the only direct path connecting the two and for that, I am grateful.
That said, that particular stretch needs some serious love. There are various cutouts in the asphalt where maintenance/utility companies have dug but no one ever patched afterward. Some of the driveway and intersection ramps are brutal and navigating the roundabouts around Highway 31/Meridian can be rough, depending on the time of day. Once you clear the Monon heading east, though, the trail gets much smoother and is significantly more enjoyable, though. I’ve only ridden that stretch a few times, but is lovely. I hope we’ll see some improves on the Zionsville-Carmel stretch someday.
Flat paved path. Does cross two roads, but markings/signs are present for safety. The wooded area is peaceful, wish it was longer.
Date of ride April 17, 2026. My wife and I started at the trail head in Colfax. Easy parking right at the trail head. Rode the trail from parking area to the Hazelrigg area then back. We did pass a few folks out enjoying the day - all friendly! Beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife along the trail. It’s true though that there are some pretty rough spots in and around the Thornton area. We took it slow and it was fine - bumpy- but fine. All in all it was an awesome ride and for sure will ride it again. Hoping to try it from the Lebanon direction next.
Rode this trail from the courthouse in Lebanon out almost to Colfax on April 12, 2026. As others have mentioned, there are some bumpy spots (roots upheaving the trail) near Thorntown, so just slow down there. And there's a half-mile stretch where it's a bit overgrown, but still easily passable. Overall, it a great trail and bit of a hidden gem. Very wide in some places; more-so than the B&O trail. Rode a total of 25 miles and just saw a handful of people. There are only a few road crossings and most of those are out in the country, with no traffic. We stopped at Klooz Brewz afterward for some nourishment. It was great!
Great path, had some elevated spots. You do cross two moderate used roads but the path has excellent markings for vehicles.
