Lake Phalen Trail

Nice, Smooth Trail Ride

June, 2018 by jackierlandin

This was a very nice trail to bike on. It’s separated most of the way from the walking trail which is nice as I found a lot of people running/walking which would have crowded the trail if it was combined all the way around. There are plenty of different parking places located around the lake for easy access to the trail. Shading around the lake so you aren’t always riding in the sun.

Dakota Rail Regional Trail

The only thing missing is...

June, 2018 by jkluver33

This is wonderful trail with some incredible views of the two largest metro lakes, Minnetonka and Waconia. Plenty of stopping points along the way for photo opportunities or a bite to eat or drink, including a couple of craft breweries, a drive-in that features homemade rootbeer, and several bistros. I'd like to give the Dakota trail 5 stars, but it lacks a safe, connecting trail from the north side of the lake into the city of Waconia. Also, it would be awesome if this trail could someday branch off to Victoria to connect with the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail.

Sunrise Prairie Trail

Smooth and Wide

June, 2018 by oscar1961

This trail has been newly surfaced, so it is a nice smooth ride. It's not very busy so it is a good place to go for a family ride with younger children. However, there is nothing to see. If you get bored easily, this might not be the best trail for you. It is still worth doing once.

We had to do a 25 mile ride for our son's Merit Badge. And this trail was perfect. Lots of great shade on a hot day, beautiful scenery, birds, and even a turtle. There are a few hills but not anything hard.

Beaver Island Trail

Not for inline skating

It’s a beautiful trail but a good portion of it is worn out pretty bad and it hard to skate on it without falling down. Biking and running it’s a good trail for!

Cedar Lake LRT Regional Trail

Very Special Trail

I'm surprised there are so few reviews of this trail -- it is one of the most unique rail-trails in the country. Since there had been multiple tracks on the property, the Park District was able to get an extraordinarily wide swath of land and they designed it so that it serves walkers, runners and bicyclists, each group on its own tread. Plus, there's even room for some attractive horticulture and plantings. And, if you're lucky, a train will whistle past on the remaining live track on the other side of the fence. I don't think there's another trail like it in the country.

Big Rivers Regional Trail

Pretty trail but lacks connectivity, safety, lighting

April, 2018 by erinudell

This trail is beautiful and I've biked it often commuting to work (and run it). However, I'm very frustrated by the lack of connection to the trail - I understand the steep gradient presents a challenge but some stairs near Lexington and 13 would change my life and quite a few other people I've talked to. In part because the connections are few and far between, the trail is both isolated (halfway down a cliff) and can feel dangerous if you're by yourself and encounter a weirdo or two, which I have. Lighting would help, but ultimately better connectivity to 13 and making it a more-traveled route would improve my experience on this trail immensely.

Willard Munger State Trail (Matthew Lourey State Trail)

Pretty scenery, not great for the silent sports

March, 2018 by william.capecchi

I ran 7.5 miles from the southern trailhead in an effort to get off the pavement and into the woods. The landscape was beautiful, but the going was tough. This was partly my fault since 95% of the trail was still covered in snow/ice, but this trail is primarily snowmobile/ATV use (I passed a couple ATV groups who nodded politely as they passed, no doubt thinking I was crazy or lost or both). The portions of trail not snow covered were rutted and uneven making even these stretches difficult.
Overall not great for trail running. I'll experiment with other sections, but unless you have a fat bike I wouldn't recommend this lower section.
