We traveled 3 hours for a biking trip to Decorah (which has a beautiful trail) & hoped to also do this trail for two days. This trail is almost 20 years old & the entire trail needs to be redone, so many cracks, holes, bumps, weeds growing in the trail. We did a total of 12 miles (both north and south of Ridgeway) and had to finally stop as it was ridiculous. This trail is terrible for your E-bike & your body. Why can’t these two counties responsible get some grant help to revamp the trail which would help tourism and bring bikers to the area? Terribly disappointing.
As other reviews state, this side isn’t as nice and maintained as its counter part. There’s a small section in the middle that gets narrow and some grass clumps have grown in the midst of the asphalt. BUT from Harmony a few miles out it is brand new, and the views are worth it! Hilly as hell! But also fun. Best part is camping at the Hidden Valley campground. This part of the river is ice cold!!
Probably one of the best trails we have been on for being so smooth. Would be nice to see this trail go to Goodhue and pine island.
It was a very fun time doing this trail we started at Cresco just after the cement ends the next two miles are very rough. From Ridgeway to Calmar was getting good a few bad spots. Would be a good school project for kids to do. Saw a lot of chipmucks and hit one grey squirrel on the way back.
Just rode this trail. The section between Rushford and Lanesboro is great. From Lanesboro to Fountain there are dangerous slick spots and weed overgrown onto the trail. The fountain trail head is full of dangerous wild parsnip weed. This trailhead has not been maintained. Also the section between Rushford and Houston is in terrible condition with slick sections of moss and mud and crumbling asphalt. Decided to take hwy 16 back to Rushford.
This section of trail is in terrible shape and in dire need of repaving. There are mud and moss covered areas that are almost impassable as well as cracks, holes and crumbling asphalt. This trail is dangerous especially for road bikes. What a shame they have let this go for so long for a state trail since the scenery is so beautiful!
Skated from Faribault to a little west is Morristown. The trail is in good condition and fairly smooth.
Great trail! Wide and open, great views of the river. A must do trail!
We stayed in Preston overnight and the rode 6.7 miles of this trial to access the Root River trail and then east to Peterson and back for a 50 mile ride. While not as wide and well maintained as the root river trial this is still a nice shady trail with pleasant river views and Preston is a good Lodging option for the root river trail. Stayed at the Jailhouse Inn. The owners are very welcoming and the breakfast is top notch.
A great easy cruising trail. Wider than most and well maintained. Lots of shade but you can still get views of farms, hills, and the river.
