Willard Munger State Trail (Brown's Creek State Trail)

brown’s creek trail

August, 2020 by dfullerton93

A beautiful well kept trail. Depending on which way you are heading it’s either a ver gentle upslope or downslope through the creek gorge to the river. The trail starts or stops right at the Stillwater riverfront park. Beautiful scenery the whole way especially when the trail parallels the creek. Several hillsides and gullies filled with ferns and sometime the water is rushing in its bed. A wonderful trail all in all.

Goodhue Pioneer State Trail

Great trail

Rode from Hay Creek Campground along riverbank and horse trail. In good condition and a fun pig tail under Pioneer Road.

Mill Towns State Trail

Piecemeal Trail

July, 2020 by timbee205

I rode this trail as it branched off of the Cannon Valley Trail going into Cannon Falls. The first segment looks like an ancient city trail that is very narrow with rough pavement. After a mile or so it sends you into a little park on dirt, down a hill then back up on gravel. I bypass this by going through the parking lot and then the road where the new segment starts which has smooth pavement and a few hills with an underpass under Hwy 52 and a view of the Cannon River.

This leads to a nice park/campground--Lake Byllesby. It has recently been re-modeled. There are a few old sites along the lake that have shade & grass. The rest of the new sites (over 60 of them) have no shade or grass, just an asphalt pad, some gravel, electricity and a grill or fire pit. It has very nice bathroom facilities. The swimming beach was closed when I was here in late July, although you can swim on the Goodhue side of the park.

As far as the rest of the trail goes there are some huge gaps once you're done with Northfield and Cannon Falls. Some day when it's all connected it will be worth the extra effort.

Cannon Valley Trail

Needs TLC & upgrades

July, 2020 by timbee205

This is a nice, pleasant trail but is in need of TLC. Lots of ruts & broken cracked pavement. There are several very nice new bridges west of Welch into Cannon Falls which also have new pavement nearby. It's mostly uphill towards Cannon, so if the wind isn't opposing you it will be almost a coast back to Welch.

The trail fee at least keeps up basic maintenance such as mowing, blowing, cutting fallen branches, etc. The trail head at Welch could definatly use some upgrades such as the rest rooms which probably go back 30-40 years. The water is awful but there probably isn't much that can be done about that. The cell coverage is very poor at Welch but improves at both ends.

As far as any amenities along the way, there isn't much--bring your own water & snacks. Much better choices are available if you ride into Red Wing which also has some scenic trails along the Mississippi River.

Nice wide trail from 35W to highway 77 (Cedar)

Sunrise Prairie Trail

Lovely

July, 2020 by lauraleevanvalkenburg

Beautifully paved (asphalt), flat and not busy. I live in the city of Minneapolis & drove 30 miles (each way) to go on a 25 mile bike ride. Totally worth it. It was a peaceful dream compared to the wonderful, but hectic, Minneapolis greenways and lake paths. Thank you to Washington County for investing in such a gem!

Mississippi River Regional Trail (Dakota County)

serene

July, 2020 by thomamundsen

Lots of bluffs and river sites - plenty of sight-seeing. Flat? Not so much but well maintained.

Cannon Valley Trail

4 out of 5

July, 2020 by kj2train

Started at Welch and road to cannon falls. About 20 miles round trip. The scenery is great. Great mile markets and benches or picnic tables along the way. The reason i did not give a 5 is because the asphalt trail itself is inconsistent. Some areas it’s smooth, other areas it is bumpy or lots of patches.

Rice Creek North Regional Trail

Great ride through woods and marshlands

July, 2020 by gladbrook33

Accessed trail by Rice Creek Elementary School and was pleased to find trail recently resurfaced. Smooth and in good condition. Very pleasant to find such a nice trail in uran area.

Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail

Great, flat and shaded trail

July, 2020 by kasey.skala

Rode Faribault to Waterville. Waterville to Mankato is closed for construction. Trail was in great condition. Trail is relatively flat. Majority of the 15 miles is shaded due to tree canopy which makes it a cool ride. Really enjoyed this trail.

Willard Munger State Trail (Gateway State Trail)

beautiful woodland trail

July, 2020 by dfullerton93

North half is almost entirely tree canopied. Beautiful picture spots. Many benches along the way to stop. Several portapotties available. Easy slopes, well maintained pathway. Fairly popular trail.

Coon Creek Regional Trail

great trail

July, 2020 by katierenaewoods

Seclusion from the city. Runs along coon creek and through the woods most of the way. You spend about 4 minutes on the actual road. This will be a frequent bike path for me!
