The trail winds thru the Pennsylvania grand canyon. Many bridges, water falls and great scenery. The well maintained trail offers many days of fun!
Started south end E.Lake Rd, end at Freeville Station. Nice variety, rural, flat, good signage, well maintained (cut grass, lots of benches). 1/2 shade, 1/2 open - 1 mi of grass, single-track, mostly cinders. Traveled past wetlands & lake. We saw ducks, lots of birds, bald eagle, young doe in creek, beaver dams. Good ice cream shop in Dryden. Nice 15 mile ride! Visiting from PA.
My wife and I enjoyed two sections of trail on two separate cycling days on this, our third cycling excursion on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. We stayed Bear Mountain Lodge just a few miles west and south of Wellsboro. We stayed in the Canyon Room and I can’t say enough good things about our stay there. We could have gotten on the trail just a sort road ride from the lodge, but with only two riding days available to us, and a desire to ride the more picturesque parts of the canyon, we drove to Darling Run and started from there and rode the 8 miles or so to Tiadaghton. There we stopped at the campground beside the creek for the lunch we’d brought. Next day we started from Miller’s Crossing and rode to Slate Run where we had lunch at the Manor Hotel for a 20 miles or so round trip. Two highlights of that day were the hummingbirds at the hotel in Cedar Run and the golden eagle sighting just a couple miles south of there. Noteworthy also were the free outdoor concerts in Wellsboro two nights and the meal and in-house brews we had at Wellsboro House. Altogether a lovely outing.
One of the nicest trails I’ve ridden.Fat tire e bike. parked at Dresden rode to Burkett Mills in Penn Yan Mid morning week day Packed gravel with a one track grassy section Probably 30 others using the trail in the whole 12 miles Mostly hikers fair number of strollers Most of the other bikes were road bikes so it cannot be that rough good view of the water most of the way There were a few spots that would be slippery when wet,but no serious mud only ting I would like is signage at the road crossing
They had a ceremonial opening from Wellsboro Junction into Wellsboro today. Only allowed one day to explore the new section then closed for a couple of weeks to complete construction of a fence between the trail and the still active rail line.
We had a beautiful morning on this great trail! It started off cool( in the high 40s) but warmed nicely by noon. Watched some trout being stocked in the river on our way back to the car. I’m looking forward to coming back and seeing more of this area.
Rode the Catherine Valley Trail in September 2025. We began at the Tops grocery store in Watkins Glen and ended at a nice picnic area. The trail was mostly good shape except near the end where it was a little muddy and slippery. Nice trail would recommend.
Best part of our stop in Ithica. We enjoyed the trail. We started at Cass park and the reward was the beautiful Taughannock Falls. There were Ithica green deal bikes for rent at the trail head if you're in town without a bike.
Parking behind a string of stores and back always next to an environmental facility. BEWARE recumbent/trike riders or anyone who doesn’t like hills. There is a hill in the beginning of this trail and we were exhausted walking up. Then the bumps started. We eventually turned around after about a mile and then the hill. Actually the surroundings are appealing. Now if some agency had the money and could maintain the trail it would be great.
Rode from Watkins Glen to the South end of Montour Falls. Map posted online is terrible. Trail is poorly marked. Several points between crushed stone path and paved public roads had no trail markings. Initial section from South end of WG is just a green tunnel. Nothing to see. Too much parking lot, highway, industrial area, downtown streets. Crushed stone section was well maintained.
This trail is on an old trolley line so the grades and curves are greater. The surfaces are as indicated on the description. The steep grade on the Dresden end needs a better surface. We rode on Cat Trikes and enjoyed the trail very much
