Just rode this trail. The section between Rushford and Lanesboro is great. From Lanesboro to Fountain there are dangerous slick spots and weed overgrown onto the trail. The fountain trail head is full of dangerous wild parsnip weed. This trailhead has not been maintained. Also the section between Rushford and Houston is in terrible condition with slick sections of moss and mud and crumbling asphalt. Decided to take hwy 16 back to Rushford.
This section of trail is in terrible shape and in dire need of repaving. There are mud and moss covered areas that are almost impassable as well as cracks, holes and crumbling asphalt. This trail is dangerous especially for road bikes. What a shame they have let this go for so long for a state trail since the scenery is so beautiful!
Unfortunately what is otherwise a nice, flat, double track trail is interrupted at about halfway heading north. The bridge that burned is in the middle of a marshy lake so it seems there is no good detour. I’ll be back when they replace the bridge.
One of the best trails to ride in Minnesota with stunning views. Rode it all the way to Redwing from the Cannon Falls Trailhead, had lunch at the Scarlet Kitchen and Bar and rode back. Long day
Great trail! Wide and open, great views of the river. A must do trail!
We stayed in Preston overnight and the rode 6.7 miles of this trial to access the Root River trail and then east to Peterson and back for a 50 mile ride. While not as wide and well maintained as the root river trial this is still a nice shady trail with pleasant river views and Preston is a good Lodging option for the root river trail. Stayed at the Jailhouse Inn. The owners are very welcoming and the breakfast is top notch.
A great easy cruising trail. Wider than most and well maintained. Lots of shade but you can still get views of farms, hills, and the river.
The trail was in good shape from the refuge to the burned out bridge to the south. I liked the small wayside with a picnic table overlooking a small lake.
My favorite to go to with my dogs. There is never a lot of people and easy terrain.
Great trail. Varied terrain, pastoral, oak savannah, creekside, agri fields, it's all here. Love love this one!! Some rough spots, so pay attention!
We rode from Lanesboro to Fountain and back. Trail was in great condition 95% of the time with lots of shade and numerous interesting views. We started down the Harmony-Preston spur but turned back after a couple miles. It had lovely scenery but the condition is not up to par with the rest of the trail. From Lanesboro to Rushford the trail was A+, but slipped down to a B+ around Rushford. Happily after that area the trail went back to A++. The incline between Rushford and Houston is a bit challenging but so much fun on the downslopes!
