WB&A Trail

Scenic and relaxing

July, 2022 by dnoss57

My wife and I love the wetlands stretch between Racetrack Rd. (at Horsepen Park) and the Patuxent River. But what is going on??? We went there yesterday and the trail was closed with a big fence. Seems like it will be closed for a while. My optimistic side hopes they are building a bridge to connect with the trail on the Anne Arundel side of the river. Does anyone know what they are doing?

413 Rail Trail

July, 2022 by dakota26

My husband and I rode this trail and loved it. It's a flat and easy enjoyable ride. Very nice and clean parking areas at both ends. The trail did have some pine cones and branches that could be cleared. It may be in future plans as they expand; a port o potty would be useful. Overall kudos to those responsible for this trail.

Rock Creek Trail (MD)

blind curves

July, 2022 by redlocs_99

Upfront: 14.1mi of 90% shade! 1/10th mile in is a decline if you start at MM0 at a Needwood Lake. Thus, you’ll have to climb this upon your return! 3-4 “steep” hills, are doable IF you are prepared for them. Though one (maybe2) are marked, the signs (w my level) are way too late-no chance to get a decent pedaling pace nor into the correct gear when you come upon the incline after coming round a curve Conversely, once you top it and are appreciative of the downward cruise, there are immediate curves and blind spots, so braking to adjust, you often lose this advantage Fairly new rider, so skill level is in development. Weekends I try to do 25-35mi stretches of challenging courses, weekday one or two flat 10milers just to prep for weekend This one is mid level for me, mainly because This was my first go at it and wasn’t sure if what to expect

Great Allegheny Passage

awesome trail

July, 2022 by mbdavey

My husband and I rode from Homestead to Cumberland, with stops in Connelsville and Rockwood. Trail in excellent condition and adequate water stops. The slight upward grade going east on day 2 worth it, after Continental Divide on day 3 was all down hill. Took shuttle back to Pittsburgh, wish the train got in before 1130pm because that would have been a more economical option.

Patuxent Branch Trail

Needs signage at Vollmerhausen Road

July, 2022 by rlwhite1965

Wonderful ride. A bit muddy and rough in spots but not too bad. We started at Savage Park and rode until we got to Vollmerhausen Road. There was no signage for the trail at that point. You have to turn left and either walk on the sidewalk or ride in the bike lane for a short bit until you see the trail pick up again. Lots of wildlife and wildflowers. A fair number of people so if riding a bike please be watchful on the curves. Very shady until you get to Lake Elkhorn. To

Lake Frank Trail

Shaded trail walking into the woods¿

July, 2022 by monica.ingudam

Walked around the lake, it’s shaded and nice even walking at 11:30 am. You can get around 3.1 miles around the lake. Crossed the creek too, I really enjoyed the walk. Will walk here again, check out the pictures!

Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail

Nice enough

July, 2022 by c8

I wouldn't say it's worth the drive if you are more than an hour away, but if you happen to be in the vicinity with your bike, as I was, I'd say give it a whirl. It's just too short to get any more stars - leaves one wanting more. The boardwalk over the creek is a nice change of pace from the usual rail-trails thru the woods. I saw a large, dead, floating fish at the surface of the water, providing some excitement. Most of the trail is over the water, but the last part of the main trail is thru a canopy of trees, which was a relief from the heat on the day I biked it. It ends abrubtly over Fishing Creek. You can see the rail bed resume on the other side of the creek and it hurt that it wasn't developed! Oh, the possibilities.
The connector trail off to the right on the map provides a short incline near the end of it, where it ends at a housing development. Connector is half thru woods, half in the sun.
Riding along the marina was also a nice change from the usual, with real working Bay boats, as well as pleasure boats. Seeing the mix of touristy and reality was nice. Also, boat ogling was fun.
A trail that provides a fair amount of interest packed into a mile or so.

Twinbrook Connector Trail

Connecting Viers Mill Bridge to Twinbrook Metro Station

June, 2022 by ksargent2

Taking the Rock Creek Trail South, once you pass over the Viers Mill Bridge you can make a U-turn at the bottom of the bridge and head back to Viers Mill Road. The Twinbrook Connector starts there, heading Northwest and is protected from Viers Mill traffic by a guardrail. After 2/10 of a mile, you'll turn left into a beautiful forest. In five more minutes, you'll have finished the uphill trail. Continue up to Fishers Lane, make a right and in five minutes you'll be at the Twinbrook Metro Station.

Indian Head Rail Trail

Outstanding Trail

June, 2022 by utpaduke

Mel n I rode our tandem back. Even though we are staying at Green Belt, we drove 30 miles to get there because we knew the parking place and we knew the trail from previous trips. We parked at Bensville Park and rode towards Indian Head. Trail is recently re-paved and as beautiful a ride as before. The Lily-pads were gorgeous. It was definitely worth the drive out. Now if we can get a Braves win!¿¿¿

Awesome trail. Nice scenery with history along the way. Only did point of rock to Brunswick. Stopped at the brewery. Next trip will be to Harpers Ferry.
