World Class Trail

July, 2017 by rodmatthews77

I'm spoiled. This trail is about 2 miles from my home. I ride it every chance I get. Scenery is varied and beautiful, the trail is maintained well, and I have seen a variety of wildlife on my rides. By the way, the trail connects with a trail that goes through Dubuque and down to the Mighty Mississippi River..

Badger State Trail

Not a good recumbent trike trail

July, 2017 by biketimber

Just rode this trail from Monroe to just past the tunnel and back. The trail was considerably overgrow on the sides and in the center in many areas. Spent the majority of the ride with 2 tires in the weeds. The tunnel is the best part of the ride. There are a few good pastoral views although mostly blocked by the dense undergrowth. Also, watch out for screws sticking out on the bridges where snowmobile travel has done some damage.

Badger State Trail

Disappointing

July, 2017 by campbob

I rode from the IL state line north to the Stewart Tunnel and back. There were enough ruts, gopher holes and sandy spots that it was hard to enjoy the scenery. As soon as I'd get comfortable I'd hit one of those things. There were also a couple of trees down south of Monroe. North of Monroe was better in terms of sand and ruts, but most of the bridges had broken planks that had to be avoided. The Stewart Tunnel had a lot of graffiti, something I didn't see in any of the tunnels on the Elroy-Sparta Trail. Overall I was left wondering why anyone would pay the trail fee to ride this trail. It will probably be a long time before I return.

Great Trail! One of my favorites in the Coulees of the Missisippi.

June, 2017 by dean.smith_tl

We rode this trail (with our trailer and little dog). Great surface. Great ride. Incredible scenery. I appreciate having the signs along the way about the history of the railroad and the area. It was interesting seeing the Sundown Ski area from the other side of the river. This is probably our third favorite rail trail after route of the Hiawatha and trail of the Coeur d'Alenes and one of the best the mid-western trails.

Badger State Trail

Trail maintenance lacking, but still a good ride.

June, 2017 by mail4denisk

I rode a round trip from Monticello to Monroe and back last weekend, and was surprised that the trail was so overgrown. It was just two tire tracks among the weeds, not the hard-packed gravel trail I can experienced before. Also, there was no obvious place to get a trail pass in Monticello, and there was no trail ranger in sight. (Budget cutbacks? ). It was still a great ride in a picturesque part of the state, and Monroe's town square is an excellent place for a mid-ride lunch.

Great Trail

June, 2017 by hohanian

Went on it the first time with atv's and my young son. Loved it. Both of us cant wait to go again. Easy park and ride in Monroe and loved the animals we encountered on the way. We also r two hours away and will go over and over again.

Iowas great secret! We went to "destination trail" in Minnesota the week before our 1st visit to Heritage Trail and I was afraid of being underwhelmed by a nearby Iowa trail.Wrong! This the Root River Trail, just on a smaller scale. It is a beautiful, scenic, historic trail and such a magical place.Durango is a great starting place going in either direction.A must do in our state!

Sugar River State Trail

Difficult Trail for 3 wheel bikes

September, 2016 by 4csmiley

A nice path, not as bad as some comments may lead you to believe. From New Monticello to Broadhead, the center grass is problematic for a 3 wheel as one and sometimes two tires will be in the grass the entire time. Adds another level of resistance. There is a restroom/water stop in Monticello and one in Albany. There are a tremendous amount of Walnuts on the path and a few branches. Since I am low to the ground, I usually try to grab what branches I can and move them off the path as I ride by them, but in some areas there were more than I could handle. Nothing really of any size, but would not be good for a road bike tire. The surface can be fairly spongy if it has rained recently. Scenery is ok, mostly tree covered and what isn't is usually by a farm field.

Nice trail though very busy with bikers. If looking for a 4 mile Sunday stroll start in Sageville and walk to the old bridge for lunch and back!
