Maryville-Alcoa Greenway

Fabulous Greenway but Not Well Marked

June, 2019 by rablalock

It's been a few years since we've ridden this Greenway. We still love it but found it unnecessarily frustrating today. The main parts of the Greenway are obvious. Moving between various sections, primarily at the parks (Bicentennial/Greenbelt and Charles West Amphitheater) that have multiple paths and when on the the sidewalks along the road, we found ourselves doubling back after hitting numerous dead ends or simply sensing we were going the wrong way. Even with a map. The problem is there's not adequate signage. I remember having challenges in the past, but today was rough. (Note: I'm usually exceptional with map reading, sign reading, and sensing my way. Not today!)

We started at Sandy Springs Park as we always do. We may try something different next time. Yes, we will ride this one again and again. It's a great set of connected trails. Just with the signage was better.

Wolf River Greenway

Shelby Park Section near Baptist Hospital

May, 2019 by normanbowers

Pleasant and interesting ride near the river. Most of the trail is shaded. There are restrooms and water near the main trailhead about the center of the trail. It is easy to get confused where you are as there are a number of loops. I rode all the trails and loops in this section and totaled 12 miles.

There is a connector to Shelby Park where you can ride around a lake on s separate bike trail and adds about 5 miles to the ride.

Shelby Farms Greenline

Nice smooth easy ride.

May, 2019 by normanbowers

Trail pavement is in excellent condition except for a few tree roots. The half of the trail close to downtown is densely shaded, and gets dark early in the evening. No water or toilets unless you detour into Shelby Park.
No guide is needed as the trail is an old rail line and you can't get lost.

Shelby Bottoms Greenway

Nice trail that connects with downtown

May, 2019 by normanbowers

Flat smooth shaded trail along the river. Trail ends at Shelby Park, but you can take the delineated trail along the river side of Davidson Street downtown via the pedestrian bridge over the river. Unless there is a game consider riding around Titans stadium. There is no drinking water along the trail.

Consider parking at Two Rivers Park where this trail meets the Stones River Greenway. 2320 Two Rivers Parkway, Nashville.

Murfreesboro's Stones River Greenway System

Nice trail for a small city

May, 2019 by normanbowers

Nice shaded trail along Stone River with historical and environmental stops along the way. A number of restroom and drinking fountains at trail heads, which are usually in parks. A lot nicer trail than I was expecting in a small town.

I would suggest parking at Old Fort Park 1028 Golf Ln, Murfreesboro, and biking both ways. The signs are a little confusing, but one trail takes you downtown the other along the river.

Chattanooga Riverwalk (Tennessee Riverpark)

Nice Urban Trail

May, 2019 by normanbowers

From downtown to the dam this is one of the nicest urban trials I have ever ridden. The trail follows the river with great views. The surface is smooth concrete with many restrooms and adjacent parks. Downtown is confusing, be careful or you may inadvertently be riding down steps. I would suggest not parking downtown as it is hard to find the trail. Park at one of the trail heads and ride toward downtown.
West of downtown the trail is mostly in the sun and goes through an industrial area. The trail is not scenic but appears safe and is a good ride.

Kingsport Greenbelt

Great Day on the Greenbelt

May, 2019 by ajw

We parked at Stonebrook Pl, about the halfway point. Riding east takes you through scenic woods along Reedy Creek, ending at a small waterfall just before the trail goes up the hill to Exchange Place. Turning around and heading west to Rotherwood takes you through downtown, neighborhoods, and along the Holston River. While going through downtown, you are only 2 blocks from Pals. Stop and have a peanut butter chocolate milkshake. Then take a ride on the carousel next to Food City. About 15miles round trip, mostly shaded, flat, and paved. Be aware that the trail runs right along Reedy Creek, so if there was a heavy rain, the section east of Stonebrook will be under water for a day or two.

Shelby Farms Greenline

You need a guide

May, 2019 by pkrauss_tl

In brief, the trail quality and quantity are absolutely fabulous! However, the lack of directional signs is totally disgusting. Therefore I would give the trail quality five stars and one star for the lack of directional signs. If a person could navigate, they would have the time of their lives-bicycling That is!

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail

Regular Rider

May, 2019 by jharch

I ride this trail on a regular basis. It is quiet and mostly shaded. The asphalt paving can be rough in some areas due to tree roots growing under the paving but overall it is not a problem. Quite a bit of traffic at times, both walkers and cyclist. Lots of wildlife and some really nice views of the river.

Springfield Greenway

Outstanding

May, 2019 by jharch

I am an avid trail bicycle rider and this is my favorite for middle Tennessee. Not too long but very well laid out and maintained. This coupled with the really nice park that joins it makes a wonderful public space with something for everyone.

Murfreesboro's Stones River Greenway System

Surprise Trail Stop

April, 2019 by heochief

My wife and I stopped at this trail on our travels to Florida. We stopped at this trail to get a quick ride in. We found the trail to be a great trail that offered many splendid views in a urban and country setting. The trail is flat and wider than typical. This was a gorgeous spring day and the trail was heavily traveled but well spaced with the traffic. The trail seems to be used as a connector trail. The trail is flat and very smooth paved asphalt. Great trail we will be back and use the trail for a moment to get out of the car. The trail is relatively close to the interstate.

Cumberland River Greenway

Great river views

March, 2019 by tim.ws.johnson

I run on this trail every week and it is especially beautiful in the morning with the mist rising off the river. Great trail along river that connects to downtown.
