My first time going and it was great! Safe place and beautiful scenery
We started in Akron and rode about 18 miles north. Loved it!!!
My wife and I took our Onewheel GTs on this trail, and it was very peaceful. Took us about 30 minutes to get from Kendallville to Rome City. If you bring a Onewheel, be sure to be mindful of cyclists and joggers.
This is a beautiful trail. We had to stop for two fawns standing on the trail. We watched a doe and a bald eagle in the river. There is a hairpin turn as you near Lagro, that has an immediate uphill climb.
The trail is getting widened so it will no longer be a glorified sidewalk. The surface will be asphalt. I can't wait to give it another chance!
Run in this trail and the connecting converse junction trail several times a week. Feels like a safe place, lots of shade, pretty flat. Kept in good shape.
We ( recumbent trike & e-bike) headed West from the Kiwanis park. Turned around after 9km as the surface was really tough on the trike. There’s 2 good wheel tracks for bikes, but the trike had to ride partially in the coarse trail ballast. Scenic area with farm views and a huge windmill farm in the distance.
It was hot and muggy, but under the canopy of trees it was wonderful. Some hills, but not too bad. This is one of my top three bike trails.
Very nice shaded trail. Would ride it again
7/19/24—just finished ride from Lehman Park, Berne to Snow cemetery on hard packed gravel ROW trail under construction. Nice ride even for 79 y/o with regular road bike. Scheduled to be paved starting late July.
Saw 4 red headed woodpeckers , numerous birds, chipmunks , rabbits and coyote scat. I was only one on trail during Friday early afternoon.
Hidden gem.
I’m not sure how this trail is a 5 star trail? The surface is mediocre with fragments, roots, and bumps. It’s confusing with multiple turns and trail closures. It’s unsafe with crossings at busy intersections and sections running along side busy roads. My husband and I used our road bikes. We were disappointed with the section we rode. Maybe other sections are better? We will not be returning or recommending this trail to others for biking.
