This is a beautiful trail! It meanders nearly 6 miles with many gentle curves and hills and very few straightaways. It is almost entirely wooded and runs along the lovely creek most of the way. There are a number of bridges to go over and under. The track itself is clean and in great condition. There are 3-4 manhole covers go watch out for. Thoroughly enjoyed!
This trail is well maintained. Lots of birds and wildlife. I rode the trail on a Friday afternoon in late March (62 degrees) and there were 5 other folks riding and walking. It is a flat trail that runs through mostly farm land. ¿
This is a real nice trail, but at times it’s more like a sidewalk than a bike trail. There are a lot of pedestrians and many many crosswalks. The trail ends in several different places so it’s a little bit confusing. This is more of a trail system than it is one trail. The trails are in pretty good shape but some of the more lonely stretches there was some broken glass. lonely stretches, have broken glass and things on them so you really need to know where you are going.
Love this trail. We frequently drive over from Springfield to ride this trail. The hills and curves through the woods and along side the creek make it so much more interesting than a flat, rail trail. And hooking up in Fairview Park gives you several options for more riding and having a picnic lunch. And all of the trails beginning in Fairview Park are interesting and still in pretty good shape.
Wife and I started at the park and cycled down to the end (just south west of downtown), and made our way back. There was a lot of elevation on the return trip for sure, but we’ll worth it. Despite asphalt streaks popping up along the majority of the trail, it is still a solid bike trail to hit in the area. They need to finish the trail to make it a full circle which should make it around six miles in length. It’s a great trail that meanders through some great scenery.
Rode this trail yesterday from central Bloomington to where it ends north of Towanda. Trail is in very good condition and easy to ride. I felt safe along the trail - it is far enough away from the old Route 66 Hwy. which was a plus! There are ample stopping/resting points along the way if needed. Now this trail needs to be completed all the way to Lexington and northward from there! ¿
Amazing path and trees, best foliage from late spring to early fall
Nice way to spend a beautiful day biking 16+ miles on an asphalt trail. They are currently doing work putting in new telephone poles.
I have ridden all the trails (being from Rantoul) and most are pretty nice. The section on the old Chanute AFB is interesting however that section of the trail is getting in poor shape with lots of upheaved concrete and overgrowth to maneuver around.
Enjoyed a beautiful ride through fields East of Urbana, IL to St. Joseph. Paved approaches to road crossings and nice surfaces for the trail. Multiple bike stations for minor repaira and free at the East end at the Casey's.
This trail is in great shape. Easy riding and cute little photo ops along the way. Another plus-this is close enough to hop on from the Constitution Trail.
