This is my home area trail. It's going to need some work soon but is great over all.
This trail was very good, highly recommend for people. The gap in between has lots of areas to eat, so you can’t get hungry. Some of the fast food places and grocery stores are McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Arby’s, Subway, Kroger, and ALDI. Just a note, this trail can reach around 10 miles farther than what the trail says, if you start at Fansler Park in Rochester. Very well paved, not many bumps. It would take about 25 miles to reach Peru, which is the middle town. The road section is pretty short, around 3-3.5 miles. From there, it will take you another 20-ish miles to reach the end. However, the end leads to another trail, which goes to a splash pad and some parks, great for the early summer and late spring. We visited in the fall, but you might have an even better experience in the warmer seasons.
I understand what this was meant to be. But it’s so overgrown that you end up walking in the street. That’s an issue for me because I wanted to have a trail the kids could walk.
Rode just about 8 miles on the Palos Hills end. Beautiful paved trail, beautiful weather on 8/24/25. Definitely would ride again.
Trail is beautiful but sooooo many people. Pedestrians dont care about the bike lanes, they walk in front of you
After riding 7,000 or so miles since 2019; all over the country (but primarily N IL, Iowa, WI); today is the day I got to enjoy a paved trail in Cook County. We parked in the west and rode to East end in Alsip and back. Roughly 25 miles round trip. Hot humid and windy 92F. I felt like shade was about 50% of trail length. It is a Great trail as in you do not even know you are in one of the busiest counties in the nation. I wish we could figure out how to connect from Alsip to the lakefront. We tried to bike about a mile further east on the road but then it started to seem like an industrial park so we turned around.
Started at Lovers Lane Parking lot on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and went half way out and back. The trail is up all the way, but not so much as to dampen your spirits or your legs.
Beautiful countryside with a mix of shaded woods and open fields. An occasional small town as well. Little to no cars in the road crossings.
We did not experience the on road riding at Peru but will be back to ride the northern section.
Just a beautiful trail that we will ride again.
Despite the hot July day we had a terrific ride on this beautiful trail along the river. Rode the entire trail from the east end parking lot. Loved that most of trail was paved - despite some “heaving” due to tree roots and unexpected “dips”. Several bridges to cross and a special “lookout” over the river. The majority of trail is in the shade due to the many trees and beautiful canopy. Rode by an amazing oak savanna- making this a great trail. Can highly recommend this bike trail!!
they've extended the trail north in winamac from 11th to 17th Street. adding a half mile to the trail.
It’s not the ideal path, but to see the city from a different perspective, it’s cool. Little confusing to maneuver, but it’s cool. Nice beach on one side. I like it. I recommend it, but can be confusing.
