Flint River Trail (MI)

DO NOT GO!

June, 2017 by amyelacy

Despite parking in a lovely parking lot at the farmers market, the trail is currently closed (it is June 18 2017) and the neighboring areas are NOT safe. The city is a bit disheveled and the trails leading to the main (closed trail) were in disrepair and not well marked. Scenes of barbed wire and trash lined river beds were all we got to see before we turned around and headed home quickly.

Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

Great hidden gem!

May, 2017 by jarboe

Rode this trail on a Friday in late April. We had the trail to ourselves. Did not see another person for the first 13 miles. With the exception of when we went through the small towns we probably saw no more than ten people over 67 round trip miles. We did see deer, wild turkey, blue heron, and a snapping turtle. Trail is all paved, well maintained, flat, and pretty straight. Nice bridges. Great ride.

Ok for a stroll on a fat tire bike very bumpy. Rough trail not great for a road bike unless you have 28mm tires.

Pere Marquette State Trail

Not the most boring trail I've ever ridden,...

April, 2017 by pjrobar

that would be the Pere Marquette Trail—at least the section from Midland to Coleman.

I rode from Clare to Evart and back so my comments only apply to the paved part of the trail.

While it's much better isolated from the sight and traffic noise of Highway 10—even when it's close by—than the Pere Marquette Trail, the sides of the trail are so wide and manicured that it really detracts from the sense of being out in nature. The fact that the trail is so wide and straight further contributes to it feeling more like you're on a bike highway than a trail. I much prefer the Fred Meijer Heartland Trail that runs from Alma to Greenville.

Plus one for the smooth, seamless trail surface that's great for fast riding and plus one to make up for the one star review of another reviewer.

Hampton Township Nature Trail

First ride of the year

April, 2017 by tsymborski

This a nice easy trail to ride. Well maintained, with parking at both ends of the trail. The trailhead at the end of Jones Rd. has Porta-Jon's. Along the way I saw Red Squirrels, a dozen Box Turtles and the occasional Crains.

Vassar Rail Trail

Beautiful and full of wildlife

November, 2016 by morgane1216

I run this trail because I live walking distance to it. I've ran across many little critters and even a small herd of deer that I almost ran right into! Haha.
Beautiful trail, especially in the fall. Colors every where. The trail even has mile markers painted on it so I know how far I've gone. There are 2 parks in it's span, benches along it, and bathrooms to the front.

What an experience!!!

September, 2016 by jbfred69

What a great trail system you have built. Being from the Kalamazoo area and loving to ride in different areas of our beautiful state We were very pleased with this trail. Access is very easy to find, condition of the trail is well maintained with brush cut back and surface paved. We rode from Reed City to Midland and back the next day. WHAT A PLEASURABLE EXPERIENCE.. We'll be back. Fred

Flint River Trail

September, 2016 by lysandmark

Our first time on this trail. WELL MARKED, signs everywhere as trail stemmed off. When it went on roads, they weren't crowded and sign let you know how long you'd be on the road (from 350ft-1mile). Needs some trimming of branches, but generally good condition. Best part was seeing Bluebell Beach, a Genesee County Park that was beautiful and a gem, although this was after the summer season. We started at old Farmers Market/Habitat for Humanity Restore area and took it north. Wandered through park, including seeing a Traveling Viet Nam Memorial wall area, and used that as our turn around point. Took trail on west side of river on return and it was 13 miles.

Polly Ann Trail

Polly Ann Trail Lapeer County

September, 2016 by byockey_tl

The Polly Ann Trail in Lapeer County is approximately 23 miles long, beginning at the Oakland County/Lapeer County line and continuing north to Curtis Road.

The trail is mostly grass and generally is a delightful walk through the woods. For most of the trail, the trail is wide enough for two horses (or two bikes) to ride side by side. The trail is mowed often from spring through fall although it can have some wet/muddy spots, especially in the spring. The trail is owned by the DNR and is maintained by Lapeer County with DNR funding. In full disclosure, I am a board member of the Friends of the Polly Ann Trail, a charitable organization that does fundraising for the trail, helps with maintenance, promotes the trail, and hosts two major trail events each year.

There was a time, from 2009 until approximately 2013 when several of the bridge approaches were out due to a huge flood in 2009. Those approaches have been replaced and the entire trail is accessible.

The Friends of the Polly Ann Trail hosts a 10K walk/run, starting at the Imlay City High School and continuing to Dryden, in June of each year. In 2016 there were 50 runners/walkers who participated and were very positive about the event.

The Friends of the Polly Ann Trail also hosts "Autumn on the Polly Ann Trail" on the second Saturday of October each year. It is a horseback ride, starting at General Squier Park in Dryden. Riders can choose the length of their ride and travel either north or south on the trail. In 2015, we had 75 horses and riders and had a wonderful time.

The trail passes through Dryden, where there is a very nice gabezo, with benches, a water fountain and a map of the trial. There are several nice restaurants just west of the trail to stop for a bite to eat.

In Imlay City, there is a trailhead near the intersection of 4th Street and Black's Corner's road. The trailhead has benches, a map of the trail, ample parking and two hitching posts for horses. The trail is paved in Imlay City for approximately 1800 feet.

nice ride

September, 2016 by sharonedgar

Rode from Alma to Edmore and back. Trail in good condition. Shaded. Well marked. On weekends I start in Albion on campus at the Alma College Heritage Center parking lot. The nearby building is often open (to use the bathroom!!) Some of the crossings over dirt roads are a little soft
