Great ride

August, 2022 by helm_timothy

We parked on the south end rode all the way up and ate in Lake Orion (lots of great restaurants). Took the nice downhill smooth ride back. The whole way was wonderful. Our recommendation though is to not wear new shoes the crushed limestone causes your bike and all to be covered in dust.

Best Trail Around

August, 2022 by j69hxvq8wx

I love this trail so much. I’ve been jogging and biking Lower Huron Metro Park most of my teens and twenties. It’s a great big park and the paths are varied with trips through fields and meadows, through wooded “tunnels”, it travels along the river, and has plenty of hills to vary the terrain. These trails are quiet, secluded, and a ton of fun. This was the first place I took my first “real” bike on and I’ve been regularly coming back since. It easily beats other trails around me. 3 Metro Parks are connected directly by this trail and the fourth (Lake Eerie Metro) is connected via a long connecting trail I haven’t done yet but am excited to do one day. All 4 parks have plenty of bathrooms, water fountains, map stations, and awesome bike racks for pumping up your tires or doing repairs with all the necessary tools included. The paths are all smooth and very well maintained from branches, leaves, and other debris. For as popular and well maintained these parks are, the bike paths are never crowded which is awesome. Whoever thought out the trails, details, and accessories did an awesome job. The bike repair stations are an amazing touch to these great trails. I’ve tried other trails like Hines Drive but found the section I did to be loud from traffic (you’re right next to the road the whole time) and boring (no varied terrain or paths through nature). It’s hard to go anywhere else other than this Metro Park trail because it’s easily the best trail around. The others pale in comparison.

Mike Levine Lakelands Trail State Park

I road the trail to the Hawkins Road trail head last week. It looks like there is great progress extending the trail further toward Jackson. That new section of the trail appears complete as far as the eye can see, but it is not yet open.

Michigan Air Line Trail

So fast and smooth for inlines!!

July, 2022 by knorristv

Seriously for inline skating it doesn’t get smoother than the Airline trail! Wow. Love the mellow grade changes. Parked at On the Dune sports bar parking lot. Went all the way to Old Plank road and back. Only negative thing I can think to say about this trail is the gap that was under construction (as of 7/27/22) but looks to be finished in the 2 weeks? So fast and smooth for inlines!!

It’s a great two mile stretch. Just enough for my 8 year old to enjoy. The murals are awesome. We stay on a mission to find wonderful street art.

Bridge to Bay Trail

River view

Started at Lighthouse Park. Trail was not well marked and would have had a very hard time without my downloaded map for directions. Very pretty ride along river and great art displays once we crossed the Black River and got on the Port Huron Bridge to Bay Trail. It was beautiful.

Kensington Metropark Trail

Scenic but pay attention

July, 2022 by jmk355

This trail encircles a popular lake and is very scenic. It also connects to the Island Lake Pathway as well as the Milford Trail seamlessly so you can easily get extra miles into your ride. Most of all three trails have fun slow rolling hills which make the ride more interesting.

Note there is a posted but seemingly impractical and unenforced 10 MPH speed limit. At times the need is obvious when a popular (crowded) trail has a number of curves (semi-blind at times) with the potential for downhill speed gain. Especially when the scenery is notable. Practical answer is use good sense when in those spots and be aware.

This is also located in a park area that seems to require a seasonal recreation pass or a $10 day fee. Between the three trails there are a number of places to park and get on the trail and avoid the fee. (Especially near Milford) I did not try to park in one of the lots inside the toll area to find out if there is any exemption for those only biking and not doing any of the many water activities offered.
A fun ride and highly recommended.
