I have started at Stroebel Road and made it all the way into St. Charles, I have enjoy the wildlife, scenery, and the opportunity to utilize benches that are along the trail to rest. The trailer shelf is pretty maintained. Only minor blemishes. In recent years there are newer pathways that branch off the main trail that will go towards Thomas Township.
I love this trail is 7 miles long. The longer the better in my opinion. While prior reviews have mentioned some upkeep that needs to be done (not completed as of May 2022) they are minor blemishes in my opinion. This trail offers fantastic scenery, wildlife, and if you’re fortunate enough you’ll see the big ships on the river, along with plans taking off and landing at James Clements Airport. I hope there is progress made to link this trail to the Zilwaukee pathway.
Well kept smooth asphalt rail trail connecting three rural towns. Restaurants at either end, parking and porta potties .. and not at all crowded! Now if it could just be close to home… magnificent trail.
This trail is maintained by Saginaw County Parks Dept:

Very well taken care of!
The horse path hops on and off the main trail at road crossings and bridges.
Horse path is kept cleared sporadically - but I have never seen it used, nor evidence of use (road-apples).
A great trail for all ages!
I have started this trail at Swan Creek High School parking (when school is out), at Shields Road by the Township Police Dept, and also from the Saginaw Valley Rail Trail.
All paved, wide, well-maintained, easy going, nice variety of scenery along the way.
Turning onto this from Saginaw Valley Rail Trail is a nice addition to that experience.
And a 1-mile ride down Ohern Road gets you to Roberts Community Park, another pleasant location.
Lots of open riding with only a little shade, can get hot in the summer sun.
You may get a chance to see a snapping turtle along the ditch in Kluck Nursery property.
Crossing M-46 at Meijer's in Shields can be a little nerve-wracking!
I like the side of the trail that's east of the Cass river the best. More trees and wildlife. But it's a cool walk overall
I enjoy the trail, you will most likely see deer. Many places to begin. Very pretty and a nice small town atmosphere. I like to combine this trail with side streets. Nice all year round
I have enjoyed this rail trail all summer. Being a walker, this trail breaks down to a lot of different experiences. My favorite is the 3 mile mark between sister lake and Hart lake, thanks to all the people I’ve met
November 2021 rode from Alma out 15 miles and back. Parked in city parking at very start of trail. Parking there a short ride on trail crossing a few easy to cross streets till reaching College area where the main trail opens up. We saw parking in College is where most parked. Heavy leaf cover this time of year, so could not see trail most of time, trail had a few areas of bumps. Over all the ride was smooth. Will ride rest soon.
Really nice ride with good amount of tree canopy. Trail surface in good shape.
Great ride on well maintained trail. Good fall color. Benches and picnic tables available.
