Western Maryland Rail Trail

slightly boring

July, 2024 by t84rxbwmqt

On the way down we rode the rail trail. It’s was 90% trees and concrete path. Hancock was a cute little town tho and we stopped at the Blue Goose Market that was cute. We rode the tow path on the way back and I thought that was slightly better for the scenery. It was a gorgeous day to be out but I’ve been on better trail.

Lebanon Valley Rail-Trail

Beware ebike rules, they reportedly have police enforcing them

June, 2024 by royhoffer

I was recently told by fellow cyclists of local police lurking at the Colebrook parking lot and issuing citations to people riding the "wrong" types of ebikes.

From their website:
“Class 1 E-bikes are permitted on the LVRT, provided they meet all the following standards:
Electric motor less than 750 watts
Fully functional pedals
Weight not exceeding 75 lbs.
Maximum speed less than 15 mph
Does not have capacity to be completely self-propelled (must be pedaled to engage electric motor)

Class 2 and 3 E-bikes are not permitted on approved on the LVRT.”

Since many ebikes are class 2, why would they want to exclude the riders from their trail? Riders bring revenue to the area…

Capital Area Greenbelt

Enjoyed the trail, but there was no signage regarding the closure near the end of the loop. Not being a local, I missed the news,https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.abc27.com/local-news/capital-area-greenbelt-detour-remains-in-place/amp

Northwest Lancaster County River Trail

Fantastic and well maintained trail

June, 2024 by javantine

We had heard good things about this trail, and were able to visit and ride circa 26 miles out and back yesterday, (June 4). This is a wonderful and very scenic trail with amazing views of the river and bucolic landscape. Much of the trail is shaded which helped during the heat but also adds to the allure of the trail. The Trail Welcoming Center is well maintained and the staff there very friendly and helpful. In addition, the rest room(s) were immaculate! I can't recommend this trail highly enough, and we will absolutely, (the Good Lord Willing), return to ride anytime we have the opportunity! Thanks for developing and maintaining such a marvelous and beautiful venue for relaxing and enjoying nature at its finest. We also stopped and had lunch at a wonderful tavern about 10 miles from the Welcome Center that is right along the trail. Very welcoming, great food, and very friendly clientele! Fantastic all around Great Experience!

Conewago Recreation Trail

Wasn't a fan of multiple issues. Traffic unsafe at multiple locations. Gravel and tapered to shoulders and feels unsafe. Bridge missing above road intersection. This causes huge group down to road on both sides.

Heritage Rail Trail County Park

very good

Just completed York to Maryland . Stopped in Railroad to spend the night at The Jackson House B and B. Great place. Ale Craft brewery nearby was excellent. Coming south through York was a bit of a challenge. We got off trail twice for a short period. Needs to be better marked

Ballenger Creek Linear Trail

Nice trail away from traffic

May, 2024 by davrhill

Most of this trail is not along streets. We often ride this trail round trip from Ballenger Creek Park to the other end which is near Dunkin Donuts. We often see deer. There are two bridges over Ballenger Creek, and an underpass at New Design Road which keeps trail users away from traffic. There are a few air pump and tool stands along the trail. The western half mile is on sidewalk along the road, with traffic light protection for crossing.

Northwest Lancaster County River Trail

Great trail

What an amazing trail. Beautiful scenery, smooth, lots of areas to take a break, or break the trail up. Great for new riders.

Ed Miller Memorial Trail

The amazing smell of the flowers at the start of the trail would be worth another ride for that alone. (We started at Welty Road Park.) Lots of hills, definitely a workout, some shade and some sun. The creek is absolutely beautiful.

Chickies Rock Overlook Trail

Short hike with a nice view

May, 2024 by megr_tl

Definitely not for biking the whole way, but nice for a short hike. Good view of the river! Without looking at the map, we took the steeper right trail at the first marked intersection that just showed it going to the overlook. That side trail is confusing without a map, as we ended up in a dead end without a view and had to backtrack a little and then the path ended up on the main trail. If you don't want to have to climb over a very short section of rocks at the end to see the western view, this path wouldn't be for you.
