Heritage Rail Trail County Park

Great Scenery

September, 2022 by id10t

I took a long ride north from Glen Rock. Nicely shaded and some beautiful scenery along the way. On my next ride I want to stop at the winery. I highly recommend if you like a good smooth gravel ride and some history along the way.

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

Cumberland south toward Lock 75 is horrible/unridable

Deep, sloshy, watery mud track; not even a trail. What a shame the National Park hasn’t improved this area. The GAP trail going northwest toward Pittsburgh is a dream to ride.

Cumberland Valley Rail Trail

Delightful trail

August, 2022 by karen.george1

We have ridden the GAP in its entirety, we have ridden a large portion of the KATY trail, we have ridden the emerald necklace in OH, thousands of miles of trails - BUT, this gem is one of my top 5 favorites because of the kaleidoscope of scenery and experience. You start in a bustling college town at a fantast parking area. They thought of everything in less than a football field of space - parking, bike tool station, car charging station, a train car museum, bike lockers! and spacious bathrooms that seemed spotless!! Then you take off on the trail and its very well maintained, people are very friendly and then you roll through rural tree lined areas then farming communities. Its simply wonderful. I highly recommend this trail as a must do as equal to the Big name trails!

Heritage Rail Trail County Park

Excellent trail

August, 2022 by karen.george1

Just returned from riding this trail 8.23.22. Fantastic. Very well maintained and scenic. History signage was good. Dont get confused about some of the breaks in the trail - keep going! You dont want to miss an inch of this trail. We ran in to a local named "Stu". Thank you Stu for your guidance to us "outta towners from Pittsburgh" as we would have stopped too early. Loved this trail and will be back soon!

Great work out

August, 2022 by karen.george1

Just returned from biking this trail. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We enjoyed the scenery and history and the trail is very well maintained. We started in New Freedom PA at the train station where there is a ton of parking. Being from Pittsburgh area we didn't know where the safest place was for parking - this location was perfect. Everyone so friendly!! Fantastic ride - great work out as the trail provides up/down portions. (We are age 62 and 59-cant do heavy work outs so this trail was great for us). We did this trail on 8.22.22 then we also did the connecting Northern Central Railroad trail on 8.24.22 and started from New Freedom both rides. BOTH trails are fantastic and we WILL go back.

Western Maryland Rail Trail

western Maryland trail

August, 2022 by aldo_desalvo

Great trail. Shaded for most of the route. Asphalt for all but two miles. The two miles goes around a spectacular tunnel that is closed for some reason. Very little cell service in little orleans which made it hard to find a he parking spot. The trail potentially could go over the Potomac to paw paw and connect to the cno. That has been scrapped for now. Most roots are Marked on the pavement which helps. You are on your own from Hancock to little orleans. Very remote.

Western Maryland Rail Trail

western Maryland

August, 2022 by aldo_desalvo

All asphalt except for two miles that passes a tunnel that hopefully will be open some day. It would be nice if the abandoned bridges over the Latinos could be added someday and connect to the cno canal trail. Mostly shaded. Cool bars in Hancock md. You have to not to park in Hancock but no on the western end (little orleans). Zero cell device near there

Very nice trail: Started in Shippensburg where it’s paved the first mile or so, then crushed stone. Adjoining path along the NW side for horses. I like the combination historic & agriculture markers making it equally informational. Mostly shaded, but one stretch went through an alfalfa field and the scent was wonderful! A first cousin to honeysuckle! The NE portion, the newest section toward Carlisle, goes under large power lines about 2 miles, so it’s exposed and no shade. I’ll ride it again!
