Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

Great hidden gem!

May, 2017 by jarboe

Rode this trail on a Friday in late April. We had the trail to ourselves. Did not see another person for the first 13 miles. With the exception of when we went through the small towns we probably saw no more than ten people over 67 round trip miles. We did see deer, wild turkey, blue heron, and a snapping turtle. Trail is all paved, well maintained, flat, and pretty straight. Nice bridges. Great ride.

Ok for a stroll on a fat tire bike very bumpy. Rough trail not great for a road bike unless you have 28mm tires.

Pere Marquette State Trail

Not the most boring trail I've ever ridden,...

April, 2017 by pjrobar

that would be the Pere Marquette Trail—at least the section from Midland to Coleman.

I rode from Clare to Evart and back so my comments only apply to the paved part of the trail.

While it's much better isolated from the sight and traffic noise of Highway 10—even when it's close by—than the Pere Marquette Trail, the sides of the trail are so wide and manicured that it really detracts from the sense of being out in nature. The fact that the trail is so wide and straight further contributes to it feeling more like you're on a bike highway than a trail. I much prefer the Fred Meijer Heartland Trail that runs from Alma to Greenville.

Plus one for the smooth, seamless trail surface that's great for fast riding and plus one to make up for the one star review of another reviewer.

Hampton Township Nature Trail

First ride of the year

April, 2017 by tsymborski

This a nice easy trail to ride. Well maintained, with parking at both ends of the trail. The trailhead at the end of Jones Rd. has Porta-Jon's. Along the way I saw Red Squirrels, a dozen Box Turtles and the occasional Crains.

Big bump at mile 17.8

April, 2017 by badh

Lovely trail. My wife and I bike it at least twice a week when we are home.
It would be very nice if someone could sand down/fix the awful 2" bump on the small wood bridge at mile 17.8 going north between Cedar Springs and Sand Lake.

new surface?

Biked this trail from Howard City south to Cedar Springs today. Workers were finishing up with new bridges on both sides of Howard City. I wonder if it's in the plans to asphalt this section??

Fun & Beautiful Trail!

October, 2016 by ptl6kds

My husband and I rode a portion of the White Pine trail from Grand Rapids to 3 miles past Rockford. It was a great ride. Love that it is paved and that you can stop along the way in various places to see things, have lunch and just enjoy the time outside. Would recommend it to those who like paved trails. We hope to go the entire length eventually.

What an experience!!!

September, 2016 by jbfred69

What a great trail system you have built. Being from the Kalamazoo area and loving to ride in different areas of our beautiful state We were very pleased with this trail. Access is very easy to find, condition of the trail is well maintained with brush cut back and surface paved. We rode from Reed City to Midland and back the next day. WHAT A PLEASURABLE EXPERIENCE.. We'll be back. Fred

Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

nice ride

September, 2016 by sharonedgar

Rode from Alma to Edmore and back. Trail in good condition. Shaded. Well marked. On weekends I start in Albion on campus at the Alma College Heritage Center parking lot. The nearby building is often open (to use the bathroom!!) Some of the crossings over dirt roads are a little soft

Fred Meijer Heartland Trail

lovely shaded ride with cute towns with TWO ice cream locations

September, 2016 by sharonedgar

I biked this trail today from Greenville to Vestaburg and back. I had planned on going all the way to Alma and back but wussed out at Vestaburg. This is a great trail. It is in decent shape (some rough areas, but really nothing to complain about). The road crossings are not overly annoying, but a few require caution. The towns of Greenville, Stanton, Edmore and Vestaburg are all adorable. I have found two ice cream parlors - one right along the trail in Stanton (how great is that AND they have frozen yogurt) and one a block off the trail in Vestaburg. If you start in Greenville take a spin around the Flat River trail as well, it's a slow roll because of the curves and fair amount of pedestrain traffic, but it is a nice way to finish the long ride.
