Kal-Haven Trail State Park

Great Trail in SW Michigan

October, 2025 by kokmeyerjoe

I live close by so this is my go to trail when I don't want to compete with vehicles. Crushed stone the entire length with the western half was redone in 2024. Both trailheads on east and west ends are congested on the weekends but it's nice to see people out and enjoying the outdoors. In between is much less crowded with several places to jump on from parking area's and crossroads. It's well maintained for fallen trees, branches, gopher holes and wash outs but some areas with inclines could use some attention to bring it back to smooth surface. Average rider can complete it in 3-5 hours and maybe even return back in one day. Could use me maps along the trail indicating where you are on the trial.

It's a decent trail for locals but with unending noise for traffic and with nothing to see, I might consider skipping unless you're local.

Kalamazoo River Valley Trail

A great trail

A great ride on this beautiful trail. It’s a little tricky in Kalamazoo proper but other than that it’s very scenic, peaceful and well-maintained.

Kalamazoo River Valley Trail

mixed review

Parked at the Galesburg Augusta Primary school ¿ Meander from school to the trail ¿ Country like setting transitioned to a road-hugging trail¿ Riding alongside car traffic ¿ The trail was pretty smooth and the wildflowers were in bloom.

Interurban Trail (Allegan County)

Bad

The entire trail is very uneven throughout, rough, and with nothing to see, I would urge you either skip this trail or maybe walk it.

Upper Macatawa Greenway Trail

Nice

This sunny trail has some slight hills and tight curves near the end, after taking you through dense woods and weed fields, so consider giving it a try.

LaSalle Trail

Good Tail

It has a nice round trip, with mostly smooth pavement except by Roseland park, so maybe skip that section.

Mishawaka Riverwalk

Okay

It's an okay trail with a nice round trip, and some enjoyable sights.

Coal Line Trail

Very Nice

Nice and open to nature with a brief urban stint with not too many road crossings.

I would recommend this trail to anyone looking.

Northside Trail (IN)

Okay

June, 2025 by clonetrooper5373

It's mostly an urban trail, with not too much nature.

Geese were allover the place and so was their poop.

Good round trip though.

Elkhart River Greenway Trail

Pretty Good

June, 2025 by clonetrooper5373

Bird poop is common throughout this trail, especially by American Park, to the point you might want to only walk that segment instead of riding a bike.

Pavement is mostly smooth, though American Park turns into loose stone for a stretch, and overall scenery is good for the trail.

Portage Creek Bicentennial Trail

Good Trail

June, 2025 by clonetrooper5373

A good that's slightly marred by a brief urban stint, you'll thankfully spend most of your time in a nature setting with this route.

Mostly flat, you'll get both sun & shade with this trail, though sights are few.

You can also use this trail to link up with multiple other trails in Portage, including Millennium Trail, Lovers Lane Bikeway, Romence Road Bikeway, Shaver Road Bikeway, and Northwest Portage Bikeway.
