This trail is awesome due to mature and well designed landscaping. Greater still is that it connects with Thun SRT system.

Swatara Rail-Trail

Great ride

May, 2017 by neilcannonjunk

Brought my 7 year old 9 year old 12 year old and they enjoyed the different trail surfaces. Was an easy ride with well-marked trails. We'll return and ride the loop trails off of the Swatara Trail.

Flooding Under Summit Bridge

May, 2017 by plyonsc

Gravel portion of trail dips beneath Summit Bridge (RT 301) and allows a fairly deep pool of tidal overflow from canal. Whether it was from tidal effect or recent rains, it was deep enough (~12")not to be able to ride thru--about 20 yards long and no way to circumvent. Didn't want to barefoot it, so turned back. Disappointed. Also, concur with other comments about strong winds--canal must generate intensification of surrounding winds--wasn't nearly as bad in parking lot.

What a great trail!

May, 2017 by csalaycik

This trails brings me such joy! It's harder going then coming back, but the street crossings are minimal and non invasive, the other riders/walkers are considerate and upbeat. I saw a lot of different types of bikes, recumbents, rollerblades, runners! The grounds are immaculate! You will really enjoy this one!

Osborn2Ride

May, 2017 by laretha

This Trail now links up with the Michael Castle Trail and you can now ride from Chesapeake City to Delaware City with just ONE road crossing. It is one great ride and is beautiful from one end to the other. My only negative is the powers to be in Maryland have not built a trail head or parking. On the Delaware end the State with the help of DelDot have built three trail heads with parking and restrooms.

This trail is not long but is a very nice trail. I had the pleasure of walking this trail with my two grand children a two year old and a four year old. The trail is new and has a great surface, nice parking, mile markers and lots more. I hope that this trail gets extended on both ends as I just love this part of the country.
PS there is a cut off that loops around and the kids had a blast as did I.

Union Canal Trail

Well maintained and scenic

May, 2017 by jborrelli

Biked this trail last Friday. Nice views of the creek and lots of historical interest along the entire path. The Action Park entrance can get extremely busy during peak periods I started around 4.00pm with two cars in the parking lot and when I returned around 6.30pm there where no parking spaces left.

Beautiful trail, Be careful of psedo-Tour De France training riders

April, 2017 by jerandvic

Absolutely beautiful trail. A real treasure, and many thanks to those who made this trail possible. Its a real historical and relaxing place for people to ride, and experience the rich history of this region in Pennsylvania.
The only draw back that I have seen, today especially is an arrogant, speed demon of a biker, worried more about cadence, heart beats per minute, and his so called exercise regimen, and in turn just about ran down numerous people. This should be addressed on the trail via, signs, or warnings that for speed training, etc, watch out for the elderly, small kids on bikes, babies in strollers. If your looking to do that kind of riding, the terrain, and elevation is not the place anyway.
All in all an enjoyable ride, one of the best, and plan on coming back, but the dude, in the green jersey, riding like he is trying to win a trophy, just about ruined it for me. If he caused a crash, or injured someone this trail would be in trouble for ages to come.

Union Canal Trail

Scenic and Well Maintained

April, 2017 by jborrelli

Recently rode this trail. It is an extremely well maintained¿ surface suitable for all types of bikes. Started at Action Park around 4pm with only 2 cars in the parking lot. You get to view the stream about 80% of the trip and there are numerous park benches, historical buildings and informational postings. When I returned, Action Park was so crowded you had to walk your bike through it and there were no parking spaces available. Return trip will be to check out Blue Marsh Lake.

Colemanville to SafeHarbor

April, 2017 by awork3

My family and some other youth rode from Colmanville Church Rd to the SafeHarbor Dam - nearly 6 miles round trip. The trail was in good shape. Some of the recent stone patching has not packed down. This posed problems for some of our less experienced riders, but my eight year old did well through it. As you cross Green Hill Rd you get some nice elevated views of the Susquehanna. There was a port-a-potty on the trail; probably for the rock climbers we encountered. All in all a good trail. No shade, but we had a beautiful day.

Ridley Creek State Park Trail

Beautiful, Lots to Look At

April, 2017 by nniager

The whole park is beautiful - I was here for a long run and really pleased with how much there was to take in... beautiful fields and farms, a large creek that I saw a handful of folks fishing in in their waders, woods with hiking trails. I ran the paved loop a couple of times - I believe it's about 5 miles long. The only down side is that there are some serious cyclists who use the path as well as families pushing babies in strollers - nothing wrong with that at all (fun that it appeals to everyone!) but worth noting for folks who don't want to keep their head on a bit of a swivel while they walk/run/ride.
