I like a trail with some ups and downs, not all flat. You do have to get off to cross roads at several points. You will see wild life including rabbits, groundhogs, and even snakes. The trail towards the end by some foundry or plant feels a little creepy, but never had any problems. I've been on it about 10 times.
The first few miles is paved,then crushed stone.Was a little soft when we rode,but there was a lot of rain the days before.Uphill most of the way. A good challenge.River you could see most of the way. Was up pretty high for awhile then leveled out bit.We rode about 22 miles,there & back.The trail is right in the back of Spring Hills Hotel,so we just rode right out from there.
The Hazel Ruby Mcquaid Park is under construction,so we parked by the jeep dealer there is some parking next to it. We went left & followed the river.Packed stone after awhile,got alittle muddy,if heavy rains, could get messey.We rode 10 miles one way & 10 back. They say trail is 6 miles,maybe connects to another trail because we could have kept going. Was a couple of small water falls. We enjoyed the trail.
The Ghost Town Trail has grown and evolved over the years into one of the best trails in Pennsylvania. The key things riders should keep in mind for riding this trail is the mountain. I highly recommend heading west to east, up mountain first.
On Memorial Day 2019 I rode the newly opened portion of the trail, designated the C&I Extension, between Vintondale and the northern end of Nanty Glo. Parking in Vintondale and riding north and then east, the round-trip is just more than 30 miles.
I recommend parking in Vintondale and riding north to Route 422, going under the highway, following Vic Miller Road for a short distance and continuing the next eight miles back to toward Nanty-Glo along the trail. Most of the trail is a true railroad grade, so if you want to have a nice ride back to the end, definitely don't start at North Street and ride west and south.
The ride is quiet and serene. There isn't much to look at along the trail, you're in the woods along the first four miles, but the newly opened (as of 2018) portion from Vic Miller Road to North Street has some wide open areas. I would recommend this trip in the autumn, late September and early October is prime leaf season in this portion of the Laurel Highlands.
One note, there is limited parking at a trialhead along Vic Miller Road. At that trailhead, if you're using the "cycling" feature in Google Maps, it shows the trial continuing northwest. That is not the case, with no trespassing signs and a gate blocking the ATV path Google Maps is mistakenly showing as trail.
There are no services along the C&I spur, so pack and plan accordingly.
Overall, this portion of the Ghost Town Trail provides a quiet ride in the forest to escape to, but your legs will be sore the next day from the uphill portions.
The trail resembles a gravel driveway, is well kept and in good shape. The listing on this site shows it at 1.0 miles long, but in reality it's only .65 miles. The trail may extend beyond the paving, but that's marked Private Property and is untreated and uneven ground.
I am new to biking so the trail from Slickville towards delmont was too steep for me. I am going to stick to the more level trails from now on.
This trail is fine. I prefer trails with more scenic/nature views. This trail cuts through Greensburg, so not a lot of nature going on. Had to cross a few busy roads.. and this trail does not have very much shade. Otherwise, it was fairly flat and it is a nice trail for those who live in the Greensburg area.

but the terrible covering is asphalt broken in so many places, so it’s impossible to ride roller skates.
Rosston to East Brady is Complete. Phase 1 of the Renovation of the East Brady Tunnel has began. Completion of this tunnel will further the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail into becoming a reality!
A friend and I rode the Trail out and back from Morgantown in early April. We enjoyed the ride because of the workout from climbing and the numerous views of Deckers Creek spilling over rocks amid rhododendron.
The trail is paved for the first 3 miles, with frequent ridges in the asphalt. After mile 3 the trail is mostly finely crushed stone. One exception is coarse gravel by the rock quarry.
From milepost 3 to 14 you climb at 2-3% grade, a steady workout. It reminded us of the GAP Trail from Frostburg to Cumberland (although that's paved.) After milepost 14 the trail levels out with occasional rises.
We detoured into Reedsville to get lunch at the DQ. The highway into town had several 4" potholes.
We passed at least 30 riders and 30 walkers / runners on the trail. Glad to see it is well used. We liked it and will ride it again next time we're in town.
