Huron Valley Trail

West Leg

May, 2020 by lelandab

My first review only covered the north and south portions of the route. Yesterday, I rode the western portion. The turnoff follows the expressway through New Hudson. It isn't very scenic, wedged between the car dealerships and the expressway. After that, though, it takes a turn and heads uphill for a while. The climb is relatively steep as you head up what was once a garbage dump. There is still some smell of sewer gas. The route has intermittent areas with rough asphalt/gravel. Once you reach the top, it is a steady descent, eventually running along another road and back to the expressway where you can hook up with Kensignton.

Baw Beese Trail

Hit & Miss

May, 2020 by kristin.creager

Rode from the Jerry Russel Trail through the Hill-Jo Trail to the end of the Baw Beese. The Jerry Russell Trail is in Jonesville and features cute bird houses. The Hill-Jo trail runs along M99 and is junk! We ended up riding on the road next to the trail because it’s so poorly paved. The Baw Beese Trail is by far the nicest of this regional trai@z I suggest parking south at the park and riding north.

Paul Henry-Thornapple Trail

Great trail, nice pavement (Don't mind that one negative review)

May, 2020 by joshuaco09

I almost didn't want to ride this trail since that one guy was so extremely upset in his review (eye roll emoji). At the time I didn't realize his review was from 2014, I think the trail has been updated since then.

We rode on 5/16/20. Started in Kentwood and ended Southeast of Middleville (about 36 miles roundtrip)

The trail signs were pretty good, a few spots took a glance at the trail link map but it was easy to follow. It was pretty solid pavement/sidewalk all the way past Caledonia. Good scenery and overall a good ride.

The trail turns to gravel, grass and we had some wet spots for about a half mile or so from 100th St SE to Stimson Rd. After that you ride down the dirt road until you reach Crane Rd where the trail picks back up. From there we continued through middleville and the trail was pleasant as far as we headed in that direction.

This trail was pretty awesome and I really enjoyed it. A few spots to ride off trail but for the most part the pavement was great. Not sure how the trail is towards Hastings but I plan to check it out sometime.

Huron Valley Trail

Straight and flat but bumpy

May, 2020 by lelandab

Rode from Lyon Oaks golf course lot. The beginning was bumpy and crossed several businesses' driveways with gravel. A left turn about 1/2 a mile north of Pontiac Trail put us onto a stretch with some nice trees lining the route. That was in the best shape of the ride. As we got past I-96, we kept to the left, taking the south part of the trail. The stretch from about 12 Mile to 10 Mile was the bumpiest with many seams in the asphalt. It was fine on a flat bar fitness bike, but my kid was jolted around a lot on his road bike. There are some pretty stretches that are forested and a couple that are wetlands. The stretch going towards Island Lake looks to run right along the expressway.

decent trail but bumpy ride

May, 2020 by joshuaco09

Rode this today 5/3/20. The path itself is nice and wide but the gravel makes for a very bumpy ride. The scenery was pleasant but the best part of the trail was the two miles of pavement in Belding. If you’re trying to do a long ride find a different trail.

Rode this trail from South Lyon to (almost) Wixom round trip today. It is very bumping and in need of resurfacing.

Update

Rode the trail from Hamburg parking lot to Pinckney April 18, 2020. Trail is in good condition. All paved. Section just east of Hamburg was under construction. No places open to stop currently. Dog friendly.

Granger Meadows Park Trail

Nice for people but not for pets

April, 2020 by cbedm22

The trails inside the park are well maintained and paved but if you are going for a walk with your dogs, you are in for a shorter and potentially muddy walk. There is only one area where dogs are allowed and it is on the outskirts of the park. It is an unpaved trail through the woods, which is easy to walk through but floods in areas after a rain.

Huron Valley Trail

Could be so much better!

April, 2020 by james p

I have ridden this trail many times over the years using different bikes, and the experience has been the same, not good! I will say that the entire trail isn't terrible, but the section from 11 mile to the I-96 underpass is really, really rough. My road bike with it's skinny tires did not go well so I tried my gravel bike. It has wider tires so I thought that might be better. It was, for most of the trail, but again that section was terrible. I even stopped to let out some air in (my tires) an effort to smooth out the ride. This trail could and should be paid more attention to as it was a great connector to Island Lake state park, Kensington metro park and now the new Airline trail.

Love this trail

The new improved trail is a hidden gem. I run often from Foreman north. It has a slight incline which is great for doing negative splits when I run an out and back
