Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail

Very flat, very long

August, 2021 by strell1010

I saw that this trail rode along the canal so I was ready for some beautiful scenery. Well that is does deliver, but the path is very flat with no elevation variation. My family likes a hill here and there to coast through and catch some speed, but this trail (at least the part we rode) has none of this. We picked up the trail in Millstone at Amwell Road.

Bedminster Hike and Bikeway

great trail for families

August, 2021 by strell1010

I've been using this trail for over 12 years, since my son was in a stroller. That's how i found it, because I was looking for a path that was flat, paved and great for walking. 12 years later, we now go there as a family on bikes. It has a good variety of straightaways and short elevation bursts. It's not very long so you can probably ride the entire trail and back in about an hour.

Enola Low Grade Trail

Atglen to Georgetown Rd. (372) not a bike trail

August, 2021 by kent5

As previous reviewers have noted the last 5.5 miles at the eastern end of the trail ending in the charming little town of Atglen is not passable by bicycle and includes numerous gates and concrete blockades designed to keep people off what is nothing more than an electrical power line right of way. Might be a future rail trail but at present it should not even be included on the map. Better to head west toward Quarryville. Fortunately, the country roads through the beautiful Amish countryside make for a nice cycling outing.

Great trail through the woods but the constant hills make it pretty challenging.

Paulinskill Valley Trail

nice quiet ride

July, 2021 by mleblanc4_tl

Rode Thursday. Better to start in from mid point city park. Blair town On both ends of trail last few miles are a bit rough. Due to recent rain a few areas were muddy. Nice ride. Nice shade. Along river and farmlands

Skippack Trail

Perkiomen Trail to Skippack

July, 2021 by mweygand_tl

A great trail to use if you want get to Skippack from the Perkiomen Trail. All other reviews were spot on. Quiet narrow trail with some blind turns and rolling hills. Trail passes through power lines, a horse farm, and a large park. Skippack is a great place to take a break at any of the various restaurants and shops.

Union Canal Trail

Not for Seniors

Trail is very hilly and crushed stone is not good for hybrids. Shame because the trail looked like it was very picturesque if we could go further.

Black River Wildlife Management Area Trail

Nice Bikeride

July, 2021 by 5m5qvjs64m

Overall a decent trail that’s flanked by some wetlands, plenty of trees, and actually goes a bit further than the 4 miles listen on here (goes an extra ~1.5 miles past the ‘end’). Some gravel at the beginning of the trail but it quickly turns to just dirt, but isn’t too bad to ride on. Next to a swampy / wetland area for a good portion of the first 2 or so miles, bugs may be more of an issue if you are walking as long as you’re moving it’s not much of an issue.

Chester Valley Trail

Beautiful, but is it safe

July, 2021 by shryock111

I cannot claim to be a frequent trail user. I have used the Struble Trail near my home mostly, and have a little experience with several other rail trail systems in SE PA.

Today being especially beautiful and the weather cool I chose to ride on the Chester Valley Trail. It was understandably busy.

This is a well built trail that travels down Pennsylvania's Great Valley. Though the trail is incomplete (the goal is to tie in with the Schuylkill River Trail) it runs through established neighborhoods as well as farm land along an old right of way that is more greenway than suburban. It is a favorite destination for walkers, runners, families, and bikers since it is convenient to a large population.

I found it unsafe since many of the bike riders do not observe the 15mph speed limit that is clearly marked on the pavement and is appropriate for a multi-use trail. It is a wide trail and safe for two way 'traffic'. However, when bikers traveling over 20mph on the trail choose to pass in the middle of the trail, where there is east and west bound congestion, the risk they create for collision is a serious threat to everyone. I found the use of audible signals or vocal warnings by those passing is also infrequent.

I ride on the trail too, but I don't understand why bikers choose to break the speed limit rule on a trail that is so frequently used by runners and walkers - especially when it is crowded. If the CVT was designed for such high speeds there would be mandatory lanes for bike riders.
