Wauponsee Glacial Trail

trail in good shape

November, 2024 by jcook1950_tl

rode the trail on 11/2/2024 roundtrip from manhattan road (mile 7) to the kankakee river (mile 22) . it was in good shape almost the whole length and without loose gravel anywhere.

Kickapoo Rail Trail

My first trail ride from near the Vermilion County Fairground to the west edge of Oakwood. Very nice ride. Nice scenery along the route. I only wish it was completed so I could go all the way to Urbana.

Wauponsee Glacial Trail

Needs work

July, 2024 by ricter87

Rode this trail 7/6/24 and found it disappointing. Rode from mile 3.0 to 15.0 and back. The trail had sections of too deep gravel challenging traction. The entire route had loose stones and some ruts.

Wauponsee Glacial Trail

Very Clean, Quiet, Flat & Easy ride for all

October, 2023 by kimlogan

We wanted to start at the very beginning of the trail. We parked in the parking lot of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall with no problems. To get to the trail from there you will have to ride on the street about 2 blocks so be careful of cars. The first three miles of the trail are asphalt paved but there are numerous locations that have either buckled or have tree roots that are pushing up; so this has caused there to be some pretty intense bumps along the way. No worries about this…just try to avoid them because after about mile 2.5 they completely go away. Not sure exactly what mile mark but the asphalt changes to a smooth and easy to ride limestone path. There are a few bridges that you ride across so those are decent photo ops. There is not a whole lot to

Wauponsee Glacial Trail Ride

September, 2023 by dynomight

My husband and I rode this trail on 9/4/2023 and enjoyed our ride. Trail is crushed limestone and is in decent condition. The trail is more sun than shade so take that into account when riding. There are places along the way to stop if needing a restroom or water.

Wauponsee Glacial Trail

Great Ride

August, 2023 by dpollack_tl

I just rode this from Joliet to the Kankakee River and it was smooth, great, and very picturesque! I was on my way to Urbana and this is a joy to ride! It is definitely worth the visit as it goes by the Buffalo Preserve too!

Covington Circle Trail

Great Biking Trail

July, 2023 by jim_harding45

Wife and I started at the park and cycled down to the end (just south west of downtown), and made our way back. There was a lot of elevation on the return trip for sure, but we’ll worth it. Despite asphalt streaks popping up along the majority of the trail, it is still a solid bike trail to hit in the area. They need to finish the trail to make it a full circle which should make it around six miles in length. It’s a great trail that meanders through some great scenery.

Kankakee River Trail

great ride

June, 2023 by paulfanfoot

Rode the gravel part of this trail first. Nice trail. Then road the paved section about 7.5 miles. Very nice, with curves and hills. Mostly shaded. Great trail to ride.

Village of Rantoul Trail

Pretty Nice

March, 2023 by olddude33

I have ridden all the trails (being from Rantoul) and most are pretty nice. The section on the old Chanute AFB is interesting however that section of the trail is getting in poor shape with lots of upheaved concrete and overgrowth to maneuver around.

Wauponsee Glacial Trail

Rode from Ballou to Manhattan, 2p mile round trip. TraIl is in excellent condition. Yrsil has a nice wind break on both sides of the trail for almost all of the ride. Will rode again.

Wauponsee Glacial Trail

Nice, smooth ride now from Hoff Rd. south

September, 2022 by sarahccaltvedt

We rode the trail south from Hoff Rd. (Midewin Prairie trailhead) to the river yesterday. The repairs are finished, and it is a smooth ride with just a few soft spots. Crushed limestone has been added to the wooded area that was just packed dirt before. A bonus is that it's monarch migration season, and there are many along the trail by the prairie. The only negative is that the restroom at Hoff Rd. has been boarded up, so the only restrooms along that part of the trail are at Symerton and the forest preserve at Ballou Road.

Loose stone not an issue anymore

September, 2022 by barb.schlatter

I just rode from Custer Park 8 miles north for a round trip of 16+ miles, and didn’t encounter the loose stone mentioned in earlier reviews. Perhaps it settled because my ride was great. Only complaint is that I forgot my water bottle. Fortunately the Will Co Ballou RD Dog Park (2 miles north on the trail from Custer) has water fountains. This was my second visit to this trail over the past couple of years.
