Lansing River Trail

ignore old reviews

June, 2020 by lindaturek

This trail is beautiful from start to finish, well maintained, with many different views and settings. There is urban, country, woods, river, stunning residential, etc. Recommend beginning at Benjamin Davis

Battle Creek Linear Park

Not maintained, unsafe

June, 2020 by nextralfires

The asphalt is beat up from tree roots, lots of debris on the paths, low hanging tree limbs, messes from homeless people. Signs missing to tell you where to turn making it hard to follow trail.
Has lots of potential, and could be an excellent path if maintained.

Mike Levine Lakelands Trail State Park

is going to be popular but keep in mind the new section

June, 2020 by bcleve108

It takes a few years to “season” a crushed stone trail and regrade it. So the new section from Hawkins Rd parking lot to Stockbridge is great now but will show some degradation with rains and use. Be patient as this happens as this section is very scenic and relaxing. You get some good looks at real working farms as you ride literally right through them

Fred Meijer Flat River Trail

Easy ride loop

June, 2020 by tim36r

Starting from the Tower Park Trail head this path is a very easy 7 mile loop. M-91 was the only road crossing that was a challenge with higher speed heavy traffic. All other road crossing were light travel neighborhood streets.
The trail follows the river for the first half of the loop and you will cross M-57 and M-91 for the second time on trail under the road bridge.
The second half of the trail follow the roadway around the Greenville schools and a tunnel allows passage back under M-57.
A mile or so later you descend down a long hill to the beach at Baldwin Lake. When you reach the beach turn left and follow the lake front road. A left turn at Makoka lake road (just before crossing the small concrete bridge) will lead you back to the starting point, a loop of about 7.5 miles. Baldwin lake road circles the entire lake adding a couple of very enjoyable miles.
Overall the trail was great, in the shade most of the first half. I love that you can circle back to the start point almost all the way on trail.

Fred Meijer Flat River Valley Rail Trail

One of the best trails in West Michigan

June, 2020 by ikerb3

Wow! Recently updated and paved. Such a great scenic route north. Walked 8 miles and so much wildlife and amazing scenery. Park at Creekside Park and walk a few minutes to the trail head.

Battle Creek Linear Park

Not in very good shape

June, 2020 by utahfoto

The trail has many, many roots creating bumps in the asphalt. Additionally, especially on the western leg there are a lot of dips and gaps in the paving. Also while there are a number of trail maps along the way, the ones I looked at didn't have a "You are here" marker. Had I known about its poor condition, I wouldn't have driven out 2 hours to ride this trail.

Sycamore Trail

Tight-ish turns

June, 2020 by baylorterp

Short connecting trail between Valhalla trail and the Lansing River trail. Good quality road, a wooden bridge to go under the highway, and several sharper turns. It’s hard to determine where you turn to continue on the Lansing River Trail from the Sycamore trail (pro tip: cross the street to start the Lansing river trail in Maguire park).

Valhalla Trail

Short and sweet

June, 2020 by baylorterp

Short, paved trail through tall trees and past a cemetery. Connects to the Sycamore trail, which then connects to the Lansing River trail.

Falling Waters Trail

Great trail for road biking

June, 2020 by ehassett

I was delighted to discover that this trail is very well maintained, wide, paved, and tree lined. I took my road bike out on it this morning at 9:00am and there were very few people on it even though the weather was perfect. I was able to ride as fast as I wanted on this flat road. I felt very safe as a woman riding alone. Another bonus is that it connects to 3.5 miles of trail on the Jackson end - Martin Luther King Equity Trail. I was able to get in a 26 mile ride.

Mike Levine Lakelands Trail State Park

Picturesque views

June, 2020 by lelandab

For all of the lakes in SE Michigan, there aren't many trails that actually go near them. This one runs through wetlands and across several creeks and rivers plus a stretch along Zukey Lake. The pavement is in good shape with only a few bumps. There are nice touches like a mirror near a sharp turn in the path. The crowds were minimal, even on a nice day. Rode from the parking lot in Hamburg to the zero mile marker in Pinkney.
