Joe Rodota Trail

Nice, flat, scenic

January, 2017 by wastedoncemore

I was in Sebastopol for business and discovered this trail on my morning run. I ended up staying on it for a few miles. It is fairly strait, paved, and flat. There are occasional benches and trash bins and seemed pretty clean. The city had experienced heavy rain a few days before I was there and the trail had some minor flooding in one spot, but I got past it ok. It was pretty.

Joe Rodota bike path

July, 2016 by kgeoghegan51

This is a wonderful, flat, easy ride from Santa Rosa to Sebastopol, which also connects in Sebastopol to another ride to Forestville. I clocked over 16 miles round trip riding from Sebastopol to Santa Rosa and back, but I did a little sight seeing in Santa Rosa so that added a couple of extra miles. In Santa Rosa there are multiple entry points, and one can also access the Smart Trail from this pathway. A great ride for families with a wide smooth pathway, and not a lot of traffic along the corridor on a weekday. Next time I will start in Santa Rosa and take the path to Forestville, which I am told adds another 7 or 8 miles to the trip (one way).

Napa River Trail

Nice pairing with Vine Trail

March, 2016 by tommyonbike

As a cyclist, my friends and I enjoy the ability to use this trail to make a loop ride. Coming from the north west side of Napa, we ride across town and through Kennedy Park on the Vine Trail. Then, when we loop back, instead of turning onto Vallejo St from Socsol Ave to return across town on the Vine Trail, we continue on Soscol and turn right on Lincoln Ave to get to the Napa River Trail. We take this to Trancas St, then turn right and ride to Silverado Trail (1st left). This takes you up-valley. With a few exceptions, the shoulder is between 10-15 feet wide, making it a safe place to ride 2 abreast. There are cross roads every 4-5 miles to allow crossing to Hwy 29 for the return ride. You can choose the cross road to tailor your route to the length you desire. Hwy 29 also has wide shoulders south of Rutherford. Soon, the Vine Trail will provide a Class 1 route from the north side of Yountville back to Napa.

Local Park bikers view

February, 2016 by ecmp_00

This is a nice hiking park, the biking view is some paved roads and lots of gravel paths. There is a rolling hills aspect of this park so its not level terrain.

Sutter Commuter Bikeway

Wonderful Vistas

February, 2016 by tirelli

A short trail between the towns of Yuba City and Sutter. Fairly uncrowded most of the time and a straight shot down the old railroad bed. Scenery includes some neighborhoods, orchards, rice fields and any manor of birds. Always in view of the smallest mountain range in the world, the Sutter Buttes.

Santa Rosa Creek Trail

Great Trail

August, 2015 by frankiethemole

Great trail if you start away from downtown.Sadly there are lots of homeless people and young less than desirable youth along the creek.

Santa Rosa Creek Trail

Lots of positives BUT

March, 2015 by rpcabergs

This is a great trail however it is NOT safe to be on it alone. There have been lots of gang related attacks and there is a high probablility that you will run into at least one group of pot smokers. So don't miss out on it, but go with a group or a dog or carry pepper spray.

West County Regional Trail

Decent trail

October, 2014 by tbonson04

It's an alright trail. Starting at Hazel Drive for about 2 miles there a lot of homeless people and trash on the sides of the trail. After that, it's a very scenic and pleasant. It's pretty much flat the whole way. I ride this trail every morning and am satisfied with it.

West County Regional Trail

not recommended

July, 2014 by siguccs

We are easterners, accustomed to long off-road rail-trails that are really away from roads. We don't like road biking because it can be dangerous and noisy. Given the dearth of options in the area, we decided to try this trail. Even knowing what it's like, we might have done it once, but we won't be back.

After reading about the trail we decided to skip the Santa Rosa area and parked at the Sebastopol Rd/Wright Road parking lot. The parking area is tiny, around 6 cars. We arrived around 9am and it was full within 15 minutes. (Though it was empty when we returned around 2pm.) The trail is carved up into nice but short rail/trail sections divided by road sections. On the way out, we went around Sebastopol on roads which were low in traffic but very hilly. There were no directional signs telling us how to get to the next section of rail-trail. The West County Trail was much better at giving you directions, but it wasn't fun for us to ride so close to (or on the road) for much of the ride. The trail itself is not paved. On returning, we decided to stick to Main street in Sebastopol, but there was no bike lane and you could not ride on the sidewalk. Till then Google maps on my iPad was invaluable in helping us find our way, but the gps went crazy in town, so we went way out of the way before finding our way back.

Bottom line is "not recommended"!

Petaluma Trails

Helen Putnam Regional Park

May, 2014 by rsgillmd

I was looking for a way to stay active and explore California while visiting a friend. She had suggested I check out Petaluma. I found the park by searching through other websites. After arrival at the park there is a $7 parking fee (assuming you are not a yearly member). You can pick up a map of the trails next to the pay station. If I knew how, I would upload the GPX file of the path I took, doing essentially all of the trails. The total distance with this method came out to 4.83 miles. The trails are multiple short segments so you never really get too far without being able to turn back if you needed to. If you start off going left from the bathrooms, leading to the Panorama trail, that is probably the steepest up hill in the whole park. I came down the Arroyo trail, back to the parking lot. That can be steep if going up it. Otherwise very gentle elevation changes with great views. Definitely worth checking out.

Just a sidewalk alongside a steep roadway

February, 2014 by 66rolyat

This is not a trail, it is just a sidewalk alongside a steep roadway. Not too far away is Brush Creek Trail which has paved and dirt paths meandering around homes alongside Brush Creek, far more enjoyable.
