San Luis Rey River Trail

Terrible for inline skating...

January, 2017 by intaminag

Beautiful views, terrible surface. This trail is rough as heck now for inline skates. The asphalt is over 14 years old and it shows. It's like riding over gravel with your wheels. I got about 1000 feet before I turned around with nearly numb feet and quit--and I have skates with 84 mm wheels.

Inline skates should be removed from the list. I'm going to the city council to request repaving or at least re-tarring the path. Wish me luck.

San Diego River Trail

Longer then posted.

December, 2016 by ddorth

Just did the ride yesterday and tracked the length. We left from dog beach in OB to Qualcomm Road and it was 7.1 miles one way. It was longer on the way back but that was because we took a side trip to Starbucks ¿¿. Good ride, but a bit rough in spots.

Escondido Creek Bike Path

Nice for a short ride.

October, 2016 by b_collier26

Anywhere between Ash Street and where it ends/begins at Harmony Grove is sketchy. The bike bath is not well lit in this section, with the occasional group of drunk bums. After Ash street the roads paved nicely perfectly well lit and a little safer. The trail ends near the Escondido humane society and a dog park, where you can find a fruit stand.

Bayshore Bikeway

Poor road conditions on SD side

September, 2016 by sandyledrew

Grateful I had a riding companion. Heading south from Coronado to Main Street is beautifully paved and marked. From there you are on the rough road. Some sections have no signage at all. We had to stop several times to figure out directions for ourselves. The road along the shipyards and 32nd Street is in very poor condition. Add traffic and a very narrow "bike lane" and it is just plain dangerous. Lots of room for improvement on the San Diego side.

Mission Bay Bike Path

Muni code clarification

August, 2016 by barry ladwig

The municipal code mentioned to in the previous review refers to pedicabs, not regular tricycles. We ride a tandem tricycle rig while pulling our disabled son in a special needs trailer (see photo section). The rig is heavy and slow and we like this trail because it has less climbing than most other places in San Diego.

Mission Beach-Pacific Beach Boardwalk

Nice Walk

June, 2016 by ntlwhlr1

I didn't walk the entire trail but did walk the Mission Beach area and up a ways but not all the way to Pacific Beach. I found the trail to be nice and wide, moderate traffic. The Mission Beach area had nice views around sunset and a number of shops and places to eat. The sand on the beach was plentiful and clean if you wanted to stop and rest. This is more of an exercise path vs. a site seeing scenic path. It was a nice path for walking, biking, skating, etc but if looking for a more scenic landscaping paths there were others in the San Diego area. If looking for a relaxing evening stroll this is the path to use.

Sweetwater Bikeway

Lots of river dwellers

May, 2016 by lharnage

Since moving to San Diego in 2010, I've averaged 2500 miles a year on a Haro 29er on pavement only, riding trail and streets from Chula Vista to Seal beach to the North.I started the sweetwater trail at the marina and headed east up river, I've ridden a lot of San Diego trails but this one from the harbor to the Westfield mall was by far the most scary in terms of personal safety, by all the trash and shopping carts in the river I assumed this area is neglected and taken over by the homeless community.

Escondido Creek Bike Path

Most of it is closed due to construction

April, 2016 by biancar87

I just moved to Escondido and tried to run on this trail. I started at the entrance at Broadway. The asphalt is newly paved so very great to run on! I discovered that the bike trail is closed from Hickory to East of Date (I did not go further than Date). Until they open the bike path again, it is virtually useless to me since only 2 blocks are open (that I know of).

Mission Bay Bike Path

Muni code says no trikes

March, 2016 by scottdion

Not sure if it's enforced but the local municipal code prohibits three wheeled bikes.

Bayshore Bikeway

Scenic ride

March, 2016 by kamg

The Coronado leg is very scenic. However as you ride along the San Diego side, the bike path gets discontineous. I took the wrong streets twice and had to rely on my google maps to get back on the path. I also accidently entered the Wildlife Refuge Park through the exit road and the gate closed behind me and waited till a car exited in order get back on the road. There are chemical smell in the air as you pass by factories. All in all I enjoyed the experience and rode about 32 miles to return to my car at the Spanish Landing park.

Escondido Creek Bike Path

It's being closed down more and more every month

February, 2016 by jbxes669

It is a useful tool for me to ride the bike trail to the train, but it looks as if the city is closing down the bike trail bit by bit putting piping in the ground. It has closed from Grape day Park to Fig and it looks as if there is going to be no attempt at re-opening anytime soon. Hopefully they do open back up I have been using this trail for years, its not the prettiest bike trail but it keeps you off the dangerous roads in Escondido.
