Ojai Valley Trail

Always a great ride

June, 2017 by

We live in Ventura and ride this trail at least once a month. It is always fun and a great ride. Even in the heat of the summer if you start early in the morning you can ride up to Ojai have breakfast in one of the many great places to eat then be going back down the trail in the shade with the coastal breeze in your face and dropping almost 20 degrees by the time you get back to Ventura.

Ballona Creek Bike Path

Good trail.....for experienced riders

June, 2017 by ramsaygoyal

On this trail, there are many elevation gains and decreases. Going down is fun, but going up can be tiring. There is also a lack of shade on this trail. For those reasons, this isn't a very family friendly trail. However, you never have to stop, making it a great trail if you want to break a sweat and get some good exercise in.

San Antonio Creek Trail

Inline Skating - Not for beginners

April, 2017 by sandrabergmeir

The location is nice, residential area next to a creek. Lots of trees and shade but also open, sunny spots. The asphalt has seen better days and is borderline okay for skating but lots of cracks. Due to the trees there are a lot of little sticks and leaves on the trail as well. On top of that, it's not a flat trail, there are quite a few step but short hills up and down. If you are a beginner this is nothing for you. If you are an advanced skater and know how to break an don't mind the dirt and a little rough surface, it's a fun skate!

Ventura River Trail

well maintained through an ugly area

April, 2017 by etaub

The trail is kept up, but until you reach the Ojai trail, which is essentially an extension of this one, you go through some typically ugly southern California terrain, past oil derricks, storage depots, and scrub.

Next time, I'll skip this trail and just about five miles up at the Ojai trail.

FYI, there is no exit 71 on the 101 if you're going north (there is if you're going south). Instead, take the 33 and get off the first exit.

Also, Rex St has no street sign; it's just past the 33 entrance as you drive up Olive.

Los Angeles River Trail

bike ride from Compton to Belmont Shores

November, 2016 by hprompt

I recently purchased a rode bike and have made afew trips from my home in Compton to Belmont Shores round trip, there are homeless people at several locations along the trail. Be very careful where you stop and rest. I will try the trail going north soon and report back. Travel with some friends to be safe.

Chandler Bikeway

Nice trail but not great for roller skating

November, 2016 by annabel80

This trail feels really safe, is easy to get to and the scenery is nice but the cracks in the pavement every 3ft really suck for roller skating. Jarring thud if you're going fast and if you're going slow, your wheels get stuck and you fall over.

Arroyo Seco Bike Path

Short easy ride

November, 2016 by drbeckerwood

My young daughter is just learning to ride and this was perfect for her. The homeless problem mentioned in other reviews seems to be solved. At least, we didn't have any trouble and we've been three times now.

Laguna Dominguez Trail

Can be dangerous

October, 2016 by stustuff

Starting from the south end at Manhattan Beach Blvd the path is reasonable but it goes down from there. Moving northward there are a series of streets that need to be crossed in order to continue and several crossings are dangerous as you exit in the middle of a street with no official crossing or lane markings to navigate. And then there is the Rosecrans crossing. You exit on the west side of Crenshaw, zig zag crossing over Rosecrans to the east side of Crenshaw and finally enter the northbound path again. This zig zag crossing is at a extremely busy intersection with lots of interesting people around and way too many cars and trucks. I do not feel at all safe there. Sorry.

Moving north again has you crossing some very rough (falling apart) railroad tracks with lots of garbage everywhere and many large and wild cats. There is garbage almost everywhere and homeless people abound. This whole area is very dangerous for bicyclists riding on the streets and sidewalk riding is not much better. Ride at your own risk.

Los Angeles River Trail

Dangerous trail

October, 2016 by dcihon

I visited Long Beach this year and took a bike ride up this trail from Long Beach. I no more than got on the trail and was harassed by people on the trail. I'll assume they were homeless. They yelled at me to never come back there again. I ran into a Marine Policeman and told him and he just said to just ride along the beach area of Long Beach that those people have a right to be there also. He said he can chase them away or I could press charges. Another person that was riding there said one of the people actually grabbed and stole a water bottle from their bike as they rode by.
