John Yarbrough Linear Park Trail

Great trail!

February, 2017 by root_karen

I was visiting the area and stayed in a hotel nearby. I walk regularly and saw the trail entrance my first day out. I made a point to check the trail out the next day. I was impressed! The trail is quiet in a very busy area. I enjoyed watching the wildlife in and around the canal. The few people I encountered walking, running, biking, and fishing were very friendly. I only wish there were bathrooms on the trail!

John Yarbrough Linear Park Trail

A worthwhile bike trail hidden in the city

January, 2017 by andrerx

I would recommend this trail to all levels of riders. It is straight, wide and for the most part well signed. I did not encounter much in the way of fellow riders, wakers, etc. Peaceful. It is generally away from the street traffic noise and shaded.
You can go slow, fast and ride side by side with companion.
Parking can be a challenge, however you will find it. I parked at Home Depot. Get on 6-mile cypress parkway via sidewalk and go east for about 0.75 miles. Trail starts there.

The trail is lovely, as others have said. It's approx. 1 mile long. However, as you exit the end of the trail, if you want to keep going, there's another 2 miles, lovely, low traffic, a loop around Naples Airport. Sweet little ride, with the small airport on one side, palm trees on the other, very nice landscaping. If you do the whole thing, it's 6 miles round trip. If you want more, rinse and repeat. Free parking in Naples Zoo, right at the start.

safe way to East 41

Nice wide cement path from Radio Road to Rattlesnake Hammock Rd then turn right and you are quickly at East 41. This is a straight north and south path.

Great for Family Riding

November, 2016 by rollbuhttrails

Just went on this trail November 26, 2016. Beautiful scenery and wildlife. Plenty of dog walkers and families and good parking with restrooms. Not a challenging trail for bikers (a bit short) but great to get out for about 1 hour (quick ride) and see the marshes / canal ways; very enjoyable. 99% flat (what would you expect in Florida?) but one area of the board walk ascends about 10 feet and may be difficult for riders under age 10 - they can always walk their bikes up the bridge ramp...about 3- 5 minutes).

Sanibel Island Shared-Use Paths

Was on this trail today! Wonderful trail that winds throughout Sanibel island! Along this trail there are many shop and restaurants to checkout! Also along this trail there is access to the many beaches! Including the lighthouse beach! And for the most part bicyclist have the right of way over vehicles! In fact there is an $80 fine for cars not yielding to bikes! I like that!

Nice trail along a small river way in its entirety! Three wooden bridges along the way switching from one side of the river to the other. A couple of picnic benches along the way! Not much for scenery but there were many bird species, turtles and even a coyote!

wretched parking - peaceful ride

November, 2016 by cliffelam

So the parking is odd to terrible and (this is FL) requires at least one U-turn to get there. Three if you miss it the first time. The "grass" lot which will hold 50 cars is a dirt road right *after* the rail road tracks.

This lot is around mile 3, so you're sort of splitting the trail to park.

The trail itself is very nice - smoothly paved and quite wide. There is no water.

The road crossings are all very safe - either low traffic 2-laners or signals at wider/busier roads.

There is clearly a 5+ mile extension going in behind mile 0. That should cause some interesting signage.

Pine Island Bike Path

Nice wide path, easy family ride

September, 2016 by elizabeth.harn

My husband and I did part of this trail today (him on a mountain bike and pulling my daughter's trailer and me on a cruiser bike). We started at the Winn Dixie and went south for about 5 miles and then turned around and did 6 miles back up past the Winn Dixie to the dairy queen for a treat. While it is true there wasn't as much to look at (the nature preserve appears to be a big field), there is a nice shady section, and one of the feed stores has chickens right next to the fence that my daughter enjoyed watching. And, of course, you can't go wrong with ice cream at the end. The trail is nice and flat and wide, and we had a pretty smooth ride overall. I like that the trail is separated from the road...no distracted drivers drifting over to hit us.

Sanibel Island Shared-Use Paths

Pretty good bike ride

July, 2016 by magnusdalen

We biked the paths on Sanibel four days in early July-- for 35-40 miles. Using the TrailLink map on my iPhone was extremely helpful, as the paths don't have signs posted for distances, locations of restrooms or water, or directions of where to turn. Without the map, you'll get lost and wander around.
The trails are all asphalt paved and vary in width; some are quite narrow, and few of them allow two bikes to ride next to each other. It was sunny and 100 degrees every day we rode, but there's enough shade on the paths to let you stop and cool off a bit, although there really aren't places to sit.
We found that riding in the street on the southern side of the island was often much easier than negotiating around the many bikes (mostly families with children) that are everywhere on the paths. There's not a lot of traffic on these southern roads, so it usually works.
You have to cross a lot of streets and driveways on these paths, so keep a watch out ahead. Vehicle traffic seems to be pretty aware of bikes and most, but not all, will give you plenty of room and stop for you ($80 fine for not yielding to bikes).
We also rode from Sanibel over the bridge to Captiva. There aren't bike paths on Captiva, but there are lots of bikes and golf carts, and cars seem to watch out for them and give them wide clearance. The main road from the south pass on Captiva has a wide shoulder and you can ride along the ocean for several miles of it. It would hate to have to drive/park on Captiva, but cycling is easy.
We parked each day at the east end of Sanibel and cooled off by taking an ocean swim in our bike clothes afterward. Beautiful beach!

nice leisure trail

June, 2016 by imp3

Not much scenery and no shade. It is more just a paved sidewalk behind some neighborhoods. It's wide and clean.

peaceful

June, 2016 by imp3

A little too short for biking but it is beautiful and quiet. It is clean and nicely paved with some stretches of Boardwalk. There is also a small mulched loop through the trees that is very nice.
