Prince Memorial Greenway

Prince Memorial Greenway

December, 2023 by montyw_tl

This paved trail from Santa Rosa City Hall to Railroad Square with extensions to the west along Santa Rosa Creek is a great bit of nature in the downtown. Restored 20 years ago from a paved trapezoidal channel, it is now grown out with towering trees and pools and riffles. It even goes under Highway 101. It is also lined with murals and art pieces. Newly adopted by a group called Friends of the Prince Memorial Greenway, it is clean and well maintained and frequently patrolled by Santa Rosa Police and members of the Friends Committee?

Santa Rosa Creek Trail

Natural paradise trail in a city

I loved this trail! The main trail is all paved. It has underpasses under the cross streets to allow you to keep rolling without risk of cross traffic entanglement. The scenery is fantastic, at least in the spring time when we rode it. There is lots of trees that can provide shade if it's a hot sunny day. There is lots of birds that sing as you ride. It's truly a wonderful ride. Once you get part way outbound, there is a field on the right side of the paved trail, providing variety of shade trees on the left and green fields on the right. There wasn't that many other riders or pedestrians. Be sure to gently alert the walkers as you approach them from behind so as not to startle them and let them know you are approaching.

All of the north side of the Santa Rosa creek trail is paved. However, the side branch that "Y"s off to the NE along the Piner creek is gravel on both side, but it's not a problem to ride unless you don't like gravel and the rougher ride that comes with it. There are two wide blvd crossings on that route so be careful there. The south side of the Santa Rosa creek is also gravel (I think, but I didn't actually ride it to confirm.)

Brush Creek Trail (CA)

What trail?

The trail start we approached was near impossible to find, very narrow and overgrown big time. Very disappointing. Turned around and got out of there at once. Went to our ‘go-to’ trail/hike Spring Lake. Still had a lovely time walking our go-to.

Napa Valley Vine Trail

Eight Mile Continuous Section from Napa to Yountville

September, 2021 by cincidave

My wife and I rode the Napa Valley Vine Trail while staying at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa near the intersection of State Route 29 and Redwood Road in Napa. We rode north 5.5 miles before turning around and heading back to the hotel. The trail was flat, paved and in good condition and only lightly traveled. If we had gone another half mile north, we would have reached the point where the Trail crosses underneath State Route 29 to the east side. From there it proceeds another 2 miles north before it ends at Madison Road in Yountville. When it ends you can proceed east on Madison in a bike lane. Overall, the continuous section of the trail from the north side of Napa to the south side of Yountville is about eight miles. Only gave the Trail four stars because in the first mile or two proceeding north from Napa there are three busy intersections that require you to wait for the crossing signal that may require 30-60 seconds each.

West County Regional Trail

A relatively enjoyable trail

We rode bikes on the trail from Forestville to Occidental Road. The trail is not completely flat but the hills were somewhat shallow and steady. From where we started on Pajaro Lane in Forestville we first went downhill a little while and then had an uphill climb for a fair distance followed by some fairly flat trail then a slight downhill. There is a section of the trail that is dirt and gravel along the way but it isn’t more than about 1/4 mile. The trail was shady in most places and the short sections on roads were reasonable.

This trailer is really pretty and a nice shady ride. And A easy connect from the Jo rhodora via Sonoma Avenue, with bike lane makes a great ride. One can also go to Olivers at the Montecito end and have a short break before writing back.

Napa Valley Vine Trail

great for quick jaunt between napa and yountville

April, 2019 by kcmartin01

We regularly ride the section of the trail between Oak Knoll Ave and Yountville. It's an easy, flat ride, about 7 miles one way. The views of the vineyards and hills are stunning along this entire section. There are rest spots along the way, and there's a free bike tool kit and air pump at the end of the path (or beginning depending on your direction of travel) in Yountville. Though the trail is next to highway 29, it is protected, and is separated from the highway with a good amount of trees and plantings in many sections. Train tracks are also between the trail and the highway, and the Napa Wine Train passes by regularly during peak season. It's a fun, family-friendly mixed-use path.

West County Regional Trail

just a heads up if you’re on a board

September, 2018 by dannycfoote

Do yourself a favor and skip the first half of this trail if you’re on a board. It’s pretty lame to begin with and the roads that you have to travel along are terrible. Part of the first half is also gravel and you’ll have to walk. But the second half is pretty awesome...especially the last 1/4. Go off the trail a bit and explore the back roads..there are some fun hills.
