Nature Coast State Trail

It is Florida

February, 2026 by jdietz4361

We rode about 13 miles of the trail starting at the Chamber of Commerce in Chiefland then traveled West at Wilcox Junction past the Suwannee River where we turned around to our starting point. The trail was wide, paved and easily navigated. Very smooth and the parts we traveled had little to no road noise. Reason for a 4 out of a 5 rating. The trail is absolutely straight with pretty much the same vegetation the whole length. Not real exciting but it is one of those trails you can lay down some uninterrupted miles. Next time in the area we will do additional sections.

Ochlockonee Bay Trail

Good ride

Trail was in very good to excellent condition. The boardwalks are starting to show some wear. You can ride to the far southern end of Mashes Sand Beach for some beautiful views.

Good ride

The paved trail was in good to excellent condition. I did an out-and-back from Munson Hills TH (about 30 or 32 miles total). The scenery was pleasant, and the trail not crowded for a Monday afternoon winter ride. I certainly appreciated the ongoing trail maintenance.

Coastal Trail

Very Nice Trail

I did 16.4 miles today on my bike. I started at Ochlocknee Bay and rode up to Medart (8.2 miles). I had lunch at Hamaknockers BBQ and rode back to the car. The trail is very good. You end up on the side walk or street as you pass through Panacea and must cross Hwy 98. It is fine as long as you’re careful. I would be a little nervous with smaller kids, but I really enjoyed the ride and the BBQ was excellent.

Four Freedoms Trail

needs some love

Wife and I rode the entire trail. The trail seemed to have had the shoulders recently mowed but there was a lot of small limbs and large grass clumps on the trail from mowing discharge. The last 100 yards of the trail to the river is on a gravel drive. The point where the asphalt ends and this gravel drive needs a sign to tell you that you’re almost at the end. It’s very sketchy at the very end by the river. There were a few tables and shelter there. There were bumps in the asphalt from tree roots growing under the trail. Read the description of the parking for the trail head in MadisonThe trail has potential but just needs some love.

Nice Trail

Staying at the campground in Newport which is a two mile ride to get to the trail, but there’s a paved trail all the way there. Went a few miles south to St Marks, then north about a mile beyond the northern parking area. More road noise on the northern end, but mostly quiet ride for the southern 3/4 of the trail.

Suwannee River Greenway at Branford

Nice trail but watch out for the ATV’s

July, 2025 by lhempfling

We live here and love this trail. We walk it and ride our e-bikes on it and it’s been great since they repaved it. They even added a bridge across the river by Ichetucknee Springs State Park that connects this trail to the O’Leno Trail. Hopefully they will repave the O’Leno Trail one day. Be aware that sadly the locals also use the trail with their golf carts and worse, their ATV’s. Even kids younger than 16 drive them on the trail. Most people are respectful of the walkers and bikers but not all so be careful. Hopefully it won’t take someone getting hurt to get the rules enforced.

Four Freedoms Trail

loved it

So it’s a bit rough in spots, some of the macadam is bad in a few places, but it’s a trail ride so that’s ok by me. You want perfect roads, ride on the highway. The ride down to the river is nice with a great lunch spot.

Years of trail neglect and last seasons hurricanes have made this potentially wonderful trail not worth your effort to locate.

Highway Trail

December, 2024 by adidevrudra33

Rode every inch on this trail back and forth. Not too much nature but one very small section. Should be called the Highway Trail most of it is right next to the highway. I've been on rail to trails all over the country this is my least favorite. You pass thru a lot of very trashy areas near Cross City, Chiefland and ride next to the highway A LOT. You see more broken down should be condemned trashy single wide trailers than nature. Also this is the only trail I've ever seen where the were to lazy to pull the rails up first. They just slapped the blacktop right on top. Big waste of good steel and it's causing problems all over the trail.

Suwannee River Greenway at Branford

Redone & AMAZING!!!

This trail got a makeover that is now complete! It’s super smooths and perfect for a speed skating session. I love this trail! It brings you all the way to Ichetucknee-Oleno (which needs to be redone tbh). But this trail has such amazing quality and I enjoy the scenery north of Branford.

We rode the trail today October 7, 2024. We got on at the parking lot at 4778 Woodville Highway. Plenty of spaces to park. The trail is very level with nicely maintained asphalt. We even saw a man in a “Gator” vehicle blowing off the path and cleaning the bathrooms. It is almost completely shaded. You cross several small streets with almost no traffic. The path pretty much parallels the Woodville Highway but you don’t have any worries about traffic. I wish we had time to go further into town around the capital. Nice ride!
