Recent Trail Reviews

Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail

Southern End

February, 2017 by popko

Rode from about 13 mi out into St Pete. Nice trail with varied scenery. Was aware of safety concerns from other reviews around Gulfport but didnt encounter any (mid--afternoon). Intersections not a big deal. Love the downtown St Pete area & waterfront trails around the marina. Very bike friendly whether on the trails or streets.

Starkey Wilderness Park Paved Trail

Decent trail

February, 2017 by popko

Nice level ride, scenery gets monotonous after awhile, no wildlife observed, clean rest facilities within park but none on trail, trailhead is at shelter #5 ( not parking lot #5 ), be aware of park closing time.

Good Neighbor Trail

Good Neighbor Trail

February, 2017 by youker

I did this nice 4 mile trail this morning. The trail ends at the corner of Weatherly Road and Richbarn Road. Richbarn Road continues on for a few miles so you could extend your trip a bit. The start of the trail at Russell Road is just off South Main Street. The further extension into Withlacoochee State Forest requires a mountain bike and a willingness to deal with a rough surface. Withlacoochee State Trail

One of the best bike trails in Florida

February, 2017 by rodger.elgar

I rode the central portion of this trail (approximately 15 miles) from Lake Townsen Preserve near Nobleton north to Inverness. This section of the trail is mostly flat and tree-covered rolling past rural homesteads and pastures with occasional road crossings. The trail makes a number of gentle turns along the way. It was very lightly used when I rode it which allowed me to maintain a brisk pace without interruption. The old railway mileage markers along the trail are a nice touch. Floral City a few miles south of Inverness is a picturesque representation of old Florida with a few bike shops and eating establishments that cater to trail users. Continuing north brings you to some nice lake views and to several parks along the trail. Inverness is a larger community, but maintains a small town look. It's obvious that they done much to make the ride through town a pleasant experience by maintaining the railway heritage of the trail with the preserved old train depot and the red caboose. I took a side trip and rode around the town a bit to take in some sights and check out the old court house before turning around to make my way back to my starting point. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Highly recommended!

Northen End

February, 2017 by popko

Recently rode approx 15 mi south from Tarpon Springs.
Enjoyable, leisuely ride, intersections not an issue as the trail is not a racetrack. Do wish there were rest facilities along the way so you didn't have to leave the trail and find a nearby business establishment.

I've rode this trail for years

January, 2017 by nayro

This trail is right next to my house and I've ridden on it for years. The Pinellas trail is the best way to get around on your bike without being hit by a car. Florida has some pretty crazy drivers and a lot of bumpy sidewalks. This trail has increased my quality of life greatly.

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

Lots of nature and an easy ride!

January, 2017 by wreinsel

We rode this trail on Friday January 27th from about 10am to 5pm. We started from the Mabel trailhead which is mile 29.5 and there is a restroom there. The main issue on this trail is that there is no water except at the Greenpond trailhead at mile 10. That is where we turned around after refilling our water bottle. There was one other restroom at about mile 20 at the Bay Lake trailhead which was a compostable toilet and there was parking and picnic tables there.

We were not riding for speed but to see the wildlife and there was a lot of nature to see. It was 20 degrees below normal so much chillier than normal with some sun and no wind.

We saw river otters, great blue herons, egrets, ibis, sandhill cranes, cormorants, and hawks from the bridges crossing the water. There were many types of woodpeckers and warblers too. Alligators were also out in the water.

While this sraight and flat trail can be used for speed it is also a great trail for a relaxing day of wildlife watching.

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

Back to Nature

January, 2017 by jmk355

Beginning in Polk City and riding to the other end and back, there is an abundance of wildlife and vegetation. Only needed one gear but a sharp eye helped a lot to see a number of gators (some fairly large) in the waters along the way. They aren't interested in cyclists fortunately. A super ride to relax and enjoy the beauties of nature. Water is not abundant, but easy to manage if you make good use of the fountains at mm10 in both directs.

Great Trail

January, 2017 by godeep12

This is one of the most satisfying Trails I have ridden! Lot of wildlife and the scenery is incredibly topical for Central Florida. I would recommend this trail to anyone who likes a mild challenge but take your time and enjoy all that it has to offer

If you want to just get on your pedals and disappear into a hard fought speed ride with an amazing backdrop this ride is perfect. But it is also just a Serene Ride if you want to stop along the way and look at Florida's natural scenery and wild life. it doesn't have the diversity of some other trails but by the end I realized it didn't have to. Miles are marked and benched stations for cyclists are prevalent along the way. Out of the way but worth every minute getting there.

AWESOME for longboarding

This trail is awesome for longboarding. The hills allow you to go very fast and the smooth asphalt lowers fatigue in your legs and feet.

When parking in Courtney Park, in order to find the bike trail. leave the entrance and turn left. Unless I missed the signs, we rode in a few circles looking for the route. Very easy trail, a few tiny hills. Great for just a easy going bike ride.
