Sugar Pine Railway - Strawberry Branch

Snow trail in Dec.

January, 2017 by ariel2kids

We passed the road leading into the trail on accident and stopped at the Summit Ranger station in Pinecrest for directions. We found out that the Fraser Flat Road trailhead was closed on Dec. 30th due to snow. The helpful ranger suggested that we pick up the trail on Old Sugar Pine road.
The trail head on Old Sugar Pine road (residential area) is very poorly marked. In fact we missed it because the marker was behind a tree and was only visible coming from the other direction.
From hwy 108 its 1.8 miles in on the left, if you cross over a small bridge you went to far.
After asking one of the residence we found the trail which was covered in snow. We did find markers 8 and 9 but, unfortunately we weren't prepared with info. to find out the historic value.
I can see why the mention of the Meadow and picking up trail on the other side would be hard. If it wasn't for the foot prints in the show I don't know if we would have found it.
With all that being said.....IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!
I will for sure being attempting this easy trail again in the spring.
Family friendly trail.

Merced River Trail

The Grumpy Old man

May, 2016 by c_dier

05/28/2016 Unshaded - Yes; limited.
Tons of sticker bushes - 5 varieties.
Challenging - Meh; Mostly flat with small inclines.
Watch for gopher/varmint holes.

Was easy to find on the Briceburg side. This trail was enjoyable, mostly. Bring your non-cloth hiking boots/shoes or wind up with "Bullet Ant" shoes.

The best part? The "rock fairy" a nice gentleman named Eric. Was very informative about geology.

Next trip is hike upstream, raft down stream.

Wide bike paths, easy for kids and bike trailers.

West Side Rails (Tuolumne City to North Fork/ Tuolumne River)

Nice and Easy

April, 2016 by chipdier

The trail is mostly gravel until the 4 mile mark then it turns more rugged. About the 7.2m mark the trail becomes overgrown, bring your machete!

Dry Creek Trail (Modesto)

Great bike ride!

March, 2016 by jmccaslin

Enjoyed the length and condition of this trail. Did not like the street parking we found at Moose park end, so went to LaLoma park. Big lot with lots of activity.

Tuolumne River Trail

Good biking trail

March, 2016 by jmccaslin

Enjoyed the short bike ride on his trail. Found the park by gps: 1198 Tioga in Modesto. Parking on the street was all handicap. Found large parking lot off the street right before that lot in the park.

Hetch Hetchy Trail

Don't go by yourself ladies

May, 2015 by cruiserlady

Great asphalt surface that runs from Tully to Sisk. Needs some policing and we see a lot of creepy guys just walking the trail with hands in their pockets. Had a scary incident where one guy on a bike and one standing in the path wouldn't move. We didn't stop but went on the grass around them quickly. Seriously do not walk or bike on this path alone.

West Side Rails (Tuolumne City to North Fork/ Tuolumne River)

Such an awesome trail for bike riding. A bit harder on the way back because it's uphill. Loved it

Merced River Trail

No visible sign on Bagby Side

April, 2015 by tonystrail

Went looking for this trail from the Bagby end but nothing!! I went off of the directions given in this website. The directions say that If you're driving south on Hwy 49 you will see Pinetree Rd and then continue onto French Rd.

I never saw either one. There are no street signs for Pinetree Rd or French Rd off of Hwy 49. I drove the area twice. Others bicyclists looking for the same trail had difficulty as well. If somebody could assist I would really appreciate it. I'd like to find this trail....Thanks.

Sunday PM Walk

February, 2015 by jamesholland

We started at the Coffee Road entrance and walked to just past the El Vista overpass. It was a great afternoon with perfect weather on February 15 2015. The temperature was in the mid to high 60s, so just right for walking. Everything was green except for the oak tree that still had no leaves.
