General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

My favorite Central Florida Trail

May, 2020 by jamessimmons1006

There are several decent trails in this area, Cady Way, West Orange, etc but my favorite is the Van Fleet Trail. I know many find it to be a boring trail but I like the fact that it is never crazy crowded and hardly has any intersections so you can just ride and not have to worry about stopping all the time like West Orange. Combine this with the Auburndale Trail and round trip you can get around 72 miles in. Lots of critters to see as well. Deer, armadillos, snakes, raccoons, turtles owls, etc! Great to just put on head phones and ride!!

High marks for Lake "O" Trail

April, 2020 by thom11187

Parked at the Port Mayaca lock area right off of 441 S. and easily got right on the trail and headed north. Did the 14 miles mentioned in the reviews and it was great--no construction in that area. Well paved path, beautiful scenery on either side, the lake is majestic! Passed 6-7 other bikers over the course of 2 hours, so not well traveled on a weekday or maybe it's the Covid crisis? I plan to go further next time or head south from there and see where that leads. Only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because there are no bathrooms or real shaded areas at all during that stretch so be prepared for that--we had perfect weather, not terribly hot. Maybe it changes in different areas depending on where you are on the lake, if so I'd like to hear about it.

General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

Rural landscape and easy ride

April, 2020 by dahogan

I took my first ride this week on the Van Fleet Trail. This trail is straight as an arrow and flat, so it’s an easy ride for all skill levels. The trail is in excellent shape and well marked. There’s plenty of shade. Whether a plus or a minus depends on the rider, but the Van Vleet Trail is very rural and quiet, without a lot of traffic. The scenery is pretty but doesn’t change much along the way. After a few miles, I found the trail a bit boring.

Beautiful trail and park. The town was very wise to preserve this area for everyone to share. There is a small section where there is no trail but you can ride on the road to connect to the rest of the trail but it is not marked

My favorite Florida rail-trail

Rode the Van Fleet RT Feb 21-22, 2020. Combined with the semi-rural
Aburndale TECO trail the distance is 35.6 miles. If you like nature you'll
love the Van Fleet. Fully paved with mowed lawn on sides, then cypress
swamp and longleaf pine forests of the 322,690 acre Green Swamp Preserve. Saw a bobcat, a small snake and plenty of birds. From Park on
SR 33 in Polk City there's access to Aburndale trail going south and the
Van Fleet north. Parking at north end in Mabel take 121st Ave off route 50,
a 100yd long lumpy dirt road to nice parking area.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST)

LOST trail was a delight

February, 2020 by suem.lamb

We started the trail at Moore Haven, Alvin Ward Park. We headed toward Lake Harbor but there was construction after 11 miles so we had to turn back. The ride there was beautiful. We were up on the levee road with waterways on both sides. The trail was absolutely flat with no elevation. There was a variety of birds to be seen along with alligators. There is no shade so put your sunscreen on and take plenty of water. We really enjoyed this ride and wish we could’ve made it all the way to Lake Harbor.

LOST Trail

Wasn’t exactly what we thought but was OK. Paved sections were nice but gravel parts can get tough. My wife and I both got flats on an all day ride. We have never both went flat and ran into another couple who had a flat as well. Not sure why or what caused them but both had small needle point punctures in a few places. The lake is not what we expected as you ride on top of a berm and your few is mainly weeds and saw grass. There are parts of the trail that take you well away from the lake as well. Was an OK ride but not one I’d drive to just to do,

Neptune Road Recreational Pathway

Not a real trail

It’s a nice area around the lake but not a nature trail at all.

Neptune Road Recreational Pathway

Running

January, 2020 by scoutfrog

Good area for some training runs. Only good hill section is the bridge over the turnpike. Some sections of the paved route are being pushed up by tree roots so be careful if doing any night running. Also street crossings across Neptune Road can be a bit adventurous and time consuming. Not all the street crossing buttons work. No parking at the end of the route in Saint Cloud but I park at Partin Triangle Park and then jump on the trail since I live on the Saint Cloud side.

Fort Fraser Trail

First time came from Tampa

Nice trail has some elevation and not on road as may appear on map. Has some urban aspects plenty of room a few cross roads. Would be good if they added some longer spur trails.
