My wife had a yen to do a through ride and chose the GAP trail as her goal.
We spent 5 days on the trail, starting in Pittsburgh, and finishing in Cumberland. Even with drizzling rain on several portions of the ride, we both count this as one of the best we ever rode.
The trail surface is so consistently even, it is easy rolling, especially once you cross the Eastern Continental Divide, where it steepens a bit, downhill. There was literally no trash to be found along the trail, and any debris from trees, like limbs, was quickly removed by the crews that do that. There were times when we rode many miles without seeing another rider, or crossing a road. Along the way we noticed many places to take a break, with benches or shelters, and near each trailhead you will find a bike maintenance stand, with tools and air pump. We stayed in Pittsburgh, Boston, Connersville, Confluence, Meyersdale, and finished in Cumberland. All the lodgings were very nice, and we left our vehicle at our hotel in Pittsburgh ( paid to park it there ) and hired a livery service to get us back from Cumberland to the steel city. If you are considering this trail, go do it ! It was great.

We are doing the trail now. It is beautiful with the colors changing. This trail is so well kept, with the surprise statues, just a joy to us and the dog.
First time on this trail and the first bike packing trip for my daughter. The temps had dipped for the 2 days we were riding. We rode from Franklin to Emlenton and back. Camped near Franklin. The scenery is great, the trail grade is essentially flat. There are sections with tree root bumps that slows the pace a bit. The short gravel section is passable. There were a few branches on the trail that needed to be cleared to pass, most likely from the previous weather. All in all, a good ride.
We started out at Dilltown and the washout starts at about Wehrum and continues off and on until you almost reach Belsano. From Nanty Glo to Ebensburg, the trail is good.

Beautiful scenery with no hills. Would highly recommend starting out at Farmington Township Park heading North (left) on trail for about 13 miles to have lunch at Bettina’ Italian Restaurant in Marienville. Perfect stopping point and best Italian food ever!
I liked this trail. A little rough in spots. Had to take it slow. Views made it worth slowing down for.
I used to frequent this trail for the views. One of the most beautiful Pittsburgh sunrises can be seen from the edge of Washington landings. Well I recently went back and the area just didn’t seem too biker friendly anymore. It seems like the rocks and gravel have tripled. You have to take a very slow and methodical pace to complete this loop. Please be careful when going to Washington Landing
Took the bikes one way then back. Flat and level with one small hill. Good condition with some areas with small gravel.
Road the Kane Knox Trail starting in Kane down to DeYoung and back before taking a break and then doing the bit north to the current stopping point near the Kane Country Club.
The path is exceptionally maintained. Easily bikeable on any type of type of bike due to the surface being primarily asphalt.
The trail was lightly traveled for a Saturday so had no issues with traffic on the trail.
We made a stop at Country Pines Ice Cream Shop on the north stretch out of Kane for extremely good ice cream! Get a "kids" size, the prices are extremely reasonable for the large serving sizes.
Post the ~25 mile ride we went to Logyard Brewing in town for a great beer and snack.
