The trail has a good paved surface, and it's great if you can have a tailwind at your back. I don't like that you have major roads to cross like Lyons road, Powerline Road, and Military Trail. A lot of drivers don't really pay attention to their surroundings, so don't be surprised if someone , who is making a turn, cuts in front of you as you're riding on the trail. You have to have your head on a swivel, and make sure that you're noticed.
So far , 9/25/21, from my own personal experience, the longest stretch of paved trail that you can ride on without being blocked is from Port Mayaca to Taylor Creek. Which is about 19 miles. Recently, I got on the trail at South Bay. I could only pedal a very limited distance before the paved part ran out or the path was blocked because of construction. As other people have stated, you might want to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
I pedaled from Port Mayaca to Taylor creek. The good is that part it was well paved, and I didn't have to contend with traffic. Also, I saw a pair of grey foxes. The bad part is you can't go any further on the trail at Taylor Creek. I couldn't just follow the road back to 441 because they had a chain link fence there that was locked with no way around. I had to go south on the trail to find a way over to the highway to get water. To make my way back to the trail, I had to get past this other gate that had a high curb and locks. The way they make it a big hassle to get to the road from the trail and vice versa seems like someone doesn't like cyclists? I understand having gates to keep cars off of the trail, but why are they making it hard for cyclists?
If you're looking for a place to inline skate in Pompano Beach this is just... ok. The trail is smooth pavement on the Southern and Western sides - pretty nice for skating. The North and East sides - not so much. The pavement is rougher with a fair amount of debris, particularly on the east side. Its not unskateable but - you definitely need to take it slow and you wonder how your wheels and bearings are holding up the whole time.
I recommend sticking to the south and west legs and just doubling back when you get to the corner. It's pretty obvious where the rough stuff starts.
I parked my car in the Costco parking lot, and rode my bike to the trail from there. There were no major intersection to be crossed. Instead, the road crossings were on less busy parts. The trail is nice, but there a few parts with tree roots making the asphalt bulge a bit. The iguanas were pretty cool to observe even though I do believe they're an invasive species. There are some bridges you can go under, but you may want to be careful when it gets late because it's hard to see under them. Also, there was a sign warning that part could become flooded. So far, I would say it's a nice ride.
I ride this trail several times a week. Since June 2021 it now stretches up 79th street and has many updated sections. It has very nice ocean views and generally good pavement. A few small sections have some bumpy bricks which isn't ideal if you're on a skateboard. After rainstorms it can be covered with sand and puddles in the morning, but city crews are pretty good about keeping it clean. There's not much shade so sunscreen is a must. The further south you go, the more congested it gets. Watch out for tourists on rental bikes in the south and stray cats in the northern half. At times, there can be lots of pedestrians so don't expect high speeds on this route.
I have been using this trail for about 3 months only on the weekends. It is good for bike training, but in the section of US-1 the pavement is not in good condition. I hope they fix it soon.
Looks good at first riding on concrete as opposed to gravel, but ,then you end up riding in a bike lane with cars going by. When I got to the first parts where I would have to cross a busy street, I turned around, and went back to my car. It took a while to actually locate the trail. I wouldn't have minded that if the trail wasn't so close to traffic.
This was a very nice multi-use path. I tried to go tot he start at FAU but I couldn’t find the “guest” parking near the trail so I rode my bike starting at Countess de Hoernle Park (Spanish River Athletic Center). If you park there the path inside the park will lead you to T-Rex trail toward the Tri-Rail station and from there you can connect on to El Rio. I first rode to the north end of the trail which now goes to congress on the border of Del Ray/Boca. Then I rode to the other end which ends at Glades and then back to the parking area for a total of 12.4 miles. There are water fountains along the route and plenty of iguanas laying in the sunshine. I will bring the family back to ride with my kids. There are crossing gates across some roadways but they are well marked and have caution signals you can press.
A smooth, relaxing ride with only a few intersections to cross. Not the most exciting scenery but nice on a sunny day: saw MANY birds, lizards, and some cows and horses at farms. 12 miles total back and forth. One parking FYI: Welleby Park is undergoing expansion so one entrance is closed and you won’t be able to bike thru the park to trailhead. The expansion entrance is just around the corner; Easy enough to start the trail on Hiatus itself.
Paved smooth path with park benches. Saw iguanas and herons. Path crosses a few roads but all had cross walk lights to alert drivers. Lots of shade during our morning ride. Not crowded during the week. Only problem was figuring out where to park.
This is one of the favorite trails, probably ever. It’s right next to the water, is plenty wide enough for walkers, runners, bikers etc. The length is perfect as well. There is so much beautiful scenery and many pretty homes to view also. If I lived there I would use this path several times a week.
