Oil Creek State Park Trail

Fall Ride

October, 2025 by vicki1960

Enjoyable Fall foliage bike ride through the park. Started in Petroleum Centre and pedaled up to Jersey Bridge. From there we connected to the Queen City Trail and also visited Drake Well, the site of the first oil well in 1859. This trail is paved in very good condition with a few rough spots. Follows Oil Creek, water levels very low and some areas of the creek are just all rocks. Park office is closed weekends (it's off season) but there are composting restrooms across the road. Up at the Jersey Bridge end is a plastic restroom, seasonal.

Ernst Trail

Always a nice ride

October, 2025 by vicki1960

Enjoyed another very nice ride on this trail. Though the entire length is nearly 12 miles long, the section to the East of Route 19 is paved and very nice. We get in some good miles by going back and forth. Leaves are only beginning to change, early October.

Trout Island Trail

Short but sweet

October, 2025 by vicki1960

Though roughly 2.5ish miles in length, the trail is always enjoyable to be on. This time of the year it's not real buggy. Trail is paved and in decent condition. The posts at the end of the trail have recently been painted by a member of Mercer County Trails Association.

Great Ride

Beautiful location and well maintained. Easy ride and not crowded when I went in September.

Bayfront Connector Trail

Not good

September, 2025 by ecd4105

This trail is not scenic for most of the trail. The trail is hard to follow and I had to refer to maps several times. The trail is all paved but there is a considerable amount of debris on it from the adjacent highway. The trail should continue to Presqu Trail but falls short Severl busy intersections to cross and not the best area to travel in the afternoon as there were several unsavory person panhandling, moving scarp, and unchained dogs running.

Went from Nth River Road to Orwell. Ate at the Homestead Diner just east of the trail on Route 322. Amish Cooking. Excellent. Have a slice of the pumpkin pie. The bridge is no longer out.

Garrett Wonders Bike Trail

Unfit to be a bike trail

September, 2025 by erwin.simms

This is by far the worst bike I have ever rode on. There is trash everywhere. tree limps are grown far into the trail, broken glass windows everywhere on the trail and old furniture is the type of view that you are subject to enjoy. I would rather take my chances riding on the streets of Warren, then on that trail.

Western Reserve Greenway

Excellent Trail

September, 2025 by jsafret

7 September 2025 - rode north from the North River Road trailhead for 10 miles then back. This is an excellent trail, relatively flat and well maintained. The surface is asphalt and smooth. There are a few road crossing but the roads are not busy. There were not many people on the trail even though this was a nearly perfect day for biking. This trail could be described as a destination trail, well worth a one or two hour drive.

Allegheny River Trail

Bumpy Emlenton to Kennerdell Bumpy but shaded

September, 2025 by vicki1960

Parked in Emlenton, 27 miles South of Franklin and headed North to just North of the Kennerdell Tunnel approx 13 miles South of Franklin. This section has two lengthy tunnels, need a light. Very well shaded with views of the Allegheny River. The trade off is that this section is super bumpy with uplifted asphalt pavement due to tree roots. You'll ride along and then all of a sudden hit a series of roots which catch you off guard as they are not marked and difficult to see. Some stretches it's uplifted asphalt one after another. We usually ride this section once per year and since last year it's gotten progressively worse. Other than the washboard areas, this is a good trail. Once a year is enough.

Labor Day Weekend super shaded!

September, 2025 by vicki1960

Participated in Mercer County Trails Associations annual Pedal the Lakes organized bike ride. The trail is super shaded and even thicker foliage than over the Summer. End of Summer ride showing slight signs of upcoming Autumn. It was a beautiful day at the park, Maurice K. Goddard State Park. The trail offers some great views of Lake Wilhelm as well as rolling Pennsylvania terrain.

Sunside to Orwell

September, 2025 by vicki1960

Labor Day weekend, Sunside (Route 305 in Champion) to Orwell at Route 322 and back. 35 mile round trip. Beautiful day on the trail. Plenty of shade. Most of this section is wooded with a few working farms along the way. Trail is paved and there are some bumpy sections. We enjoyed our ride on this Holiday weekend.
