Great Ride

August, 2018 by mike_gay

I agree with the differences that have been pointed out between the Pennsylvania and the Ohio side of the trail, but it is nice a great ride. Rumor has it that the town of Lowellville will have control of that section of the trail which may bring about needs improvements. Be sure to stop at Ross’ Market in Lowellville. It is a neat little working general store that makes you feel like you are walking back in time.

Oil Creek State Park Trail

started trail in Titusville. very well maintained trail. if you're looking to have an easier ride on the return trip, I recommend starting at other end. gradual incline but enough that you can tell if you're getting tired. Will definitely do again.

Rail 66 Country Trail

Along Rail 66

July, 2018 by skywinder2001

A paved parking lot is now available on rte 322 near O'neals market and Dairy Queen; this is between rte 66 and the Clarion bridge, on 322. There is also parking, frequently used by trail users, though I don't know if it's official, on rte 66, near the entrance to Madden road, between Steiner road and Lucinda, Pa. This is in addition to the parking near the historical Lucinda train station.

Bring a camera. Lots of scenic farmscape and woods. Very smooth as so much is newly paved. This summer, check for seasonal farmers and local markets and a flea market, a cool dry goods store called Lander's, a junker's store and a couple of ice cream places. Great camping area.

Stavich Bicycle Trail

PA side is great, OH side not so much

July, 2018 by brbrown

This is a great trail for a day ride. There is a swamp area where you will see some wildlife, ride next to a working train line and go through towns on the trail. However with that said, the OH side needs a LOT of work (cracks and deformations in the asphalt). Some areas are just not comfortable to ride on at all and will feel like it's shaking your bike apart! Although doable, the OH side is quite rough in some spots and not that enjoyable.

Allegheny River Trail

Rode 28 miles, two tunnels,waterfall

July, 2018 by joede18

Began in emlenton, (drive down bike path to parking) after 1st tunnel went off the trail up fairly steep hill about a 1/2 mile to Freedom Falls. Very nice falls with old iron furnace just down stream. Back downhill to bike path continued toward Franklin through the second tunnel. Turned around at the landowners that won't allow passage across their property ( the trail does continue past them though). Nice ride!

Samuel Justus Recreation Trail

July 3, 2018 ride

July, 2018 by rpd1

Parked at the junction of Justus trail and Allegheny River trail at Franklin. Road to Oil City and back. Trail is all asphalt. The trail goes about 1.1 miles beyond the end of the actual trail. You will ride along the Allegheny River and pass many old oil well pumps , many history signs of the area, and some oil tanks that are still collecting oil. One area you could smell the oil. If the ride is not long enough, you can ride the Allegheny River trail which is asphalt. The trail is very easy to ride.

Construction Alert-Summer, 2018

July, 2018 by vicki1960

The Beach 8 construction project continues. Therefore a section of the trail remains closed. There is a well marked detour but you will be directed onto park roads. This could create a problem during peak park traffic times, so plan accordingly. Not sure when this project will be completed, but it's gonna be nice when it's done! Still a nice trail but you may have to cut your ride short. For updated park and trail information, visit Presque Isle State Parks website or contact the park office.

Flat asphalt paved trail is great!

June, 2018 by vicki1960

This is a great trail which runs N/S from Canfield to Niles. Mile 10.6 is at Western Reserve Road in Canfield. Mile 0 connects with the Niles bikeway trail with a seamless connection. Trail goes through open areas of fields and shaded areas through trees. Eateries nearby the trail. Several parking areas along the trail as well.

June 18 ride

June, 2018 by rpd1

First time at Presque Isle State Park. The trail is all asphalt and goes around Presque Isle. Great views of lake Erie and the city of Erie as you bike around the isle. You will see the light house and the Perry statue. We also saw many snapping turtles. The trail is 14 miles. After we did the trail once, we sat on our beach chairs at the beach to relax. We then got on our bikes and did 6 more miles. Parking is anywhere you want. Very enjoyable bike ride and easy to ride. Will do this ride again.

Niles Greenway

Nice little trail

June, 2018 by vicki1960

Though 4.5 miles in length, it does connect with the Metro Parks trail at the Trumbull and Mahoning County lines. Niles trail has a small parking lot at Depot Street. A large parking lot with restrooms can be found in Niles on East State Street. Informational signs along the way. Flat asphalt paved. Did notice some bollards were missing approx 1 mile marker so be careful of metal sticking up.

Western Reserve Greenway

Enjoyed the ride

June, 2018 by vicki1960

Nice flat and well maintained paved asphalt trail. Has a variety of open areas; fields. And shaded by tree areas as well.
