Took my kids on a bike ride in the San Bernardino / Colton/Grand Terrace area of the Santa Ana River trail. We encountered lots of homeless encampments, lots of trash everywhere, graffiti and were threatened by a homeless individual on the trail and had to hightail it out of there to get to safety. I put in a complaint that was never followed up on or addressed. There is definitely a need for more oversight and enforcement presence on the trail to make it feel safer.
San Diego has really lost its beautiful appeal now that it is allowing people to camp anywhere.
There is no vehicle parking at either end of the trail. Other than this, this is a great ride.
Very popular trail that links up with the San Juan trail if you continue riding north thru Doheny State Park. Multi use with runners, bikers, rollerbladers, and folks that rent bikes or buggies from Doheny park.
Got on at the Sweetwater Trail connection went down to imperial Beach where the bike shops are just beyond the salt flats very nice trail and returned to the Sweetwater Trail¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ give it a go
Easy walk to do with a stroller & have family bathrooms along the way.
Got on at trail head in Bonita. Mostly smooth some patches were raised… skateable I biked to the San Diego Bay loop . Went left south to Imperial Beach and back … Any homeless were behind the trail fencing and no threat at all.
Awesome place for skating, Ocean views, people watching… Great place for possible local beach regulars sightings encounters… Slomo , Boxingmo, FastMo SwingBikeMo, Mikie(artist)…. Great places to grab some food/drinks or ride the coaster at Belmont Park… come and play yourself¿
Cracks over 3" wide bumps over 4" high on average about every 50 to 100 ft. Hasn't been repaired or maintained in over 5 years.
For me, who is afraid of heights, this was a bit difficult. It is slightly elevated and no railings. The surface is smooth, nice, easy to ride bike on. Going north-south, turn right at the neighborhood. Rode this Sunday lunchtime. Fair amount of runners, cyclists, and pedestrians. Everyone was considerate to each other.
