My wife and I enjoy biking while visiting new areas. We drive to a public park and took our bikes out along this paved and well-maintained path through a residential area. While it followed the busy road, there was always distance between the road and the path and safe crosswalks when they intersected.
Too many street crossings on busy roads I got hit by a car that ran a red light
This is a great trail for a chil ride. Starts on 8st all the way down to 232.
We biked about 8 miles of the west end of the trail from Sugarloaf Key to Lower Sugar loaf. The majority of the trail was on the road right along US1 with car and trucks flying by within 5 feet or so at 45+ mph. We did NOT feel safe or relaxed. Would not recommend.
Is short, the part below i95 is not pleasant, lot to improve on that trail
It's just a wider sidewalk, not in all parts, next to a street with heavy traffic. More useful for locals to get to some places. Didn't even know it extended beyond 89th ave because the wider faded green section disappears and then it's just a 3' sidewalk.
It's like a big sidewalk in that you have so many pedestrians that you have to watch out for because they don't bother to stay to the right. Also, I didn't like that the trail is so bumpy. I think you're better off just using the bike lane which is pretty close by, although that is kind of bumpy as well. One plus is that you can stop by Gumbo Limbo Nature Center or check out the boardwalk even though bikes are probably not allowed on it.
The trail has a good paved surface, and it's great if you can have a tailwind at your back. I don't like that you have major roads to cross like Lyons road, Powerline Road, and Military Trail. A lot of drivers don't really pay attention to their surroundings, so don't be surprised if someone , who is making a turn, cuts in front of you as you're riding on the trail. You have to have your head on a swivel, and make sure that you're noticed.
I’ve in-line skated at this trail, it’s nice and smooth for the most part the north end towards 64th st gets un skatable but there’s a sidewalk one the side you can use instead. But the rest of the trail heading south for 40th is lots of fun and just a couple street crossing so nothing to dangerous. For my liking it’s just a little short only a little over a mile doesn’t go to far, if some how they extended it to 8th street or something that would be great! Either way great trail for a walk or a short safe bike ride with the family
First time riding my bike on this trail and loved it. Very peaceful cruise with beautiful scenery.
My wife and I and our autistic son had the pleasure of riding the old cutler trail today. We started on the north end and rode to within a a mile or so of the southern terminus. An overall fantastic time. I read some of the comments about tree roots, but we didn't have any major issues. There was one section where the trail could use a bit of work but we found it to be in very good order. It was a great way to spend an afternoon.
If you're looking for a place to inline skate in Pompano Beach this is just... ok. The trail is smooth pavement on the Southern and Western sides - pretty nice for skating. The North and East sides - not so much. The pavement is rougher with a fair amount of debris, particularly on the east side. Its not unskateable but - you definitely need to take it slow and you wonder how your wheels and bearings are holding up the whole time.
I recommend sticking to the south and west legs and just doubling back when you get to the corner. It's pretty obvious where the rough stuff starts.
