Suncoast Trail

Rolling Trail

February, 2018 by tjprosseda

Biked this trail from the Rt 50/98 Trailhead on a Sunday morning. Signage was available in locating the trailhead which was helpful. The building had restrooms available, however, there lacked much information regarding the trail itself. No maps, no idea of mileage points at this trailhead to determine # of miles to the north or south, elevation and so forth. Biked on the southern end from the trailhead which was a little hilly in spots then crossing a 4 lane highway could be hairy. I am from Pa biking the Pine Creek Rail Trail where the grade is 2% so the Suncoast Trail did give me a workout. I enjoyed the path itself for riding and the availability of shade here and there. I'm not likely to go back only because of the hilly terrain for me. Great trail for training to bike long bike trips.

Flatwoods Park Trail

Visitor Biking

February, 2018 by tjprosseda

Positives of this trail would be it's flat, clean and easy to access to the trail, has restrooms and parking available if you get there early on the weekend.
There really isn't much to see in terms of wildlife on the trial but it is a good trail to do some training in terms of mileage. I went on a Saturday so there was a significant number of people walking, running, skating, biking including a group that was speed biking as a group. If you want less traffic, I would suggest going during the week when school is in session. I did enjoy putting in some miles for my exercise.

Venice trail

Started from the train depot. Avaiable restrooms always a plus. Nice level concrete trail on the east side, but like previous reviews, completely open so maybe not so good on hot days. However, after crossing the bridge to the west side, there are no signs as to how to get on and follow the trail to Casperen beach. Also, be nice if the map showed the location of the bridge.

Legacy Trail

We loved this trail. Started in Sarasota, enjoyed the flatter than a flitter ride to Venice, rode into town and enjoyed lunch at one of the little sidewalk cafes and then rode back, 24 miles total. A very enjoyable day.

Fun, good scenery, greenery and quiet

January, 2018 by caroljensen

I loved this trail. Flat, wide, smooth, shade and lots of greenery. The trail doesn’t go through industrial areas which I like. I went from Laurel Park going north to Pine Ranch Station. Of all the trails I’ve done in southwest Florida, so far this is my favorite. There are places to sit in the shade and everyone was friendly. I was the only in-line skater but I rarely see other skaters on the trails. I felt like I could skate forever on this trail. I didn’t like crossing the street at the detour but that should be repaired soon. Good parking at Laurel Park and a bathroom by the playground. I didn’t see any wildlife. I didn’t see any children on this trail which was odd. But lots of bikers. I drove 1hour and 45 minutes to use this trail and it was worth it! Then I visited downtown Venice by car, which is very close and had lunch there.

Ream Wilson Clearwater Trail

Trail down by spectrum field

December, 2017 by rtxbs

I started to walk the trail from Old Coachman Road at starting point but had to turn back as trail is down at spectrum field. The sign said it would be down through December 2017. Anyone know when this will be repaired?

A wonderful Sunday morning trail.
The 7 mile multi-use loop lives up to its name. I always prefer a loop. It's so nice to be able to park, cycle and return to the vehicle without having to turnaround.
This is a wonderful paved flat trail surrounded by wonderful Florida wildlife. Rest and water stations are plentiful.
This trail now has automated parking meters that can accept credit/debit cards as well as cash. $2 for the day includes all Hillsborough County Parks.

Flatwoods Trail...a winner

Drove from I-75 and turned east on Bruce B. Downs Blvd, driving less than a mile before turning right (south) into the entrance. Trail head has restrooms and a Pepsi machine. We enjoyed the very smooth asphalt surface and the scenery -lots of the "old Florida" with palmettos and native trees. Saw a 6' alligator off to the side. Friendly bicyclists passed us (we're on recumbent trikes) and we passed walkers and a skater.

A quick shower hit us at the best time, as we were only a few feet from a shelter. Nice to have a place to hang out.

INSIDER INFO:
1) 11 mile trip if you use the Bruce B. Downs entrance. 7 miles if you use the Morris Bridge road entrance. Plan accordingly!
2) After riding there are several places to grab a fast food lunch (ChickFila, etc) and a Walgreens to visit if you stop and happen to adjust your bike seat on an ant bed like me.

I've been writing this trail for the last 20+ years,it's awesome! scenery is fantastic, and the repair stations, with tools, and air and usually water, great planning. People are courteous always saying hello, how are you. I look forward to riding this trail, every march and October, when I'm vacationing at Indian rocks Beach. Congrats to the wonderful people who maintain and volunteer to keep this trail so wonderful. Thank to all... Dave,Lewiston N.Y.

Venetian Waterway Park

Cruising the waterway!

October, 2017 by coconutbay

This is a nice paved trail that allows you to pedal (or walk) along part of the intercoastal. Seems odd to pedal and wave at passing boats, but there you go.

INSIDER INFO:
1) Saturday mornings there's a street market near Michael Biehl park where you can take your wife to buy produce, plants, or whatever makes her happy. They close about noon I think.
2) The trail goes under a few overpasses, giving you some shelter if you get caught in a drizzle/rain event.
3) You almost certainly will see small planes (today a Lear jet) take off and land at the adjacent airport.
4) The trail ends at the beach if you want to take a dip before going back.
5) No hills- easy-peasy trail.
