Fantastic ride, even on a hot summer day. A stop in Dunedin for lunch and gelato at the bike store made it even more enjoyable. Not as much scenery along the way but lots of great stops in the small towns.
I have been going to this trail for years. A while back, it was free to enter the park other than a small toll to get there ($0.35). I started parking at the baseball facility a couple of miles before the park entrance and rode my bike in for free. The path into the park is as good as the path in the park and adds some mileage to the ride.
Lots of cover on most of trail. Has some nice bayou bridges and good cover. South part opens up next to canal with no cover. Ends down at Venece beach can look for some shark teeth..
Title says it all. Note it gets very hot out there. Not much cover on trail.
This trail changes depending on where you are. It's mostly an urban neighbor hood trail. In the north its less urban and more parks, can take it over the top of lake tarpon across Keystone to Starkey property thru cow fields. The Dunedin section is a small down town with micro brewery and many shops. Near Bay Pines there is a nice bridge over the south starts a stretch of bridges and overpasses to challenge your legs. (there are many scattered over main roads along entire trail) South in StPete is a more historical, art feel and city scape.
The northern leg from start to Coffee Pot is almost entirely straight, sunny sidewalk next to a major street in a neighborhood of modest, cookie cutter, post-war homes. The street was busy but the sidewalk “trail” was not, on this Friday afternoon during the covid-19 pandemic. I would skip this section unless you just want mileage. The rest passes some interesting old mansions and some new ones, small parks with benches and (temporarily closed) play equipment, mangroves, seawalls, a small beach (with a few volley ball players), Bay views and the-not-yet-complete St Pete Pier.. It was pleasant
A good trail that passes over the Bayway bridges and through some nice scenery. The only bad part is near the east end of the trail where it passes the sewage treatment facility. The smell can be pretty bad, but it’s survivable. It also connects to the Skyway Trail, which you can take to the Pinellas Trail to the North or toward the Skyway Bridge Trail to the South (there is a gap between the Skyway and Skyway Bridge trails). 5 stars for connectivity, but minus 2 stars for the smell.
A beautiful course and opportunity to learn some history while enjoying the great sights along the Gulf and intercoastal waters.
Very nice trail but crossings need lights. Rode 22 miles all the way to the Gasparilla Causeway paid the $3 per bike and turned around. Its beautiful but Gasparilla is next on the list. I will bring the bikes to the Island and then we ride from there. Just waiting for the Bars to open so the watering hole is satisfied for both of Us. I should have parked closer to do both rides in one. Stay tuned for the second half.
May 5. Really nice trail easy passing because it's wide . We plan another ride because it is long 40 some miles. We rode the first 10miles coming from the south. Kind of boring but like I said the trail is mint. Clearwater is next and closer to the water. The
I very recently found this trail & fell in love. It’s a perfect shot to Vinoy park, where it’s absolutely beautiful.
Great biking trail for beginners like myself! Scenic, mostly flat, and even a couple bridges and beautiful water sights!
