The only reason to ride this trail is to get to the trail along the beach! Or to commute. Not scenic at all. Lots of concrete all around you.
This trail is absolutely fantastic and represents true California! Right now, Feb 21, 2026 the part right in front of the water plant is completely sanded and you need to walk your bike quite far. We gave up after 10 min. This is the first time in 3 years that I have seen something like this. I hope the city will clean it up quickly. Also, the part around Venice, requires you to be on the street with cars. Not so enjoyable, especially on the weekend. But riding along the beach, between the sand, simply amazing!!!!!
This trail is gorgeous, but in the Eaton Fire Closure Area. Penalties for unauthorized access.

We ride this regularly starting at the south end, Torrance Bch.
Cons:We usually don't go past Venice and almost always don't go past Dockweiler. Once you get into Venice it's always crowded with inexperienced cyclists and pedestrians walking where they shouldn't. Throughout the trail many fast moving e-bikes with generally younger and inexperienced riders. They are not allowed in most places but is not enforced by the local Police. Roller bladers also can be a hazard.
Pros: Beautiful ocean views, plenty of places to stop, eat, bathroom break, etc. Riviera Village in Redondo Bch is a short detour off the trail as well as the main road going through Hermosa.
All in all a nice ride for a relaxing time.
We rode from Dockweiler RV Park North today (Sunday). Not as much traffic this way and a big portion of the trail has a separate walking section. Fun to go thru Venice! It is 9.5 miles to the Santa Monica pier and another 2.5 (total 12) to the blocked off section by National guard. That is the start of the fire area from the palisade fire. Never bored on this trail.
We stay at Dockweiler State RV which is right on the trail. From the RV to the south end of the trail is 9 miles. Lots of fun things to look at/people to see/places to eat. Try to avoid Sat&Sun if you can. Lots lots of walkers/dogs/other bikers but nobody seems bothered by anything. We love camping here and riding this trail. Never boring.
From Seal Beach to Los Alamitos this is fun. After that you hit sone random cool spots up into Bellflower. After that its all industrials, menkey back yard ranches, dried up river beds, homeless camps & trash. Im continually blown away by how many people live in the California river beds.
It starts off well and goes to ¿ real quick. The train track crossing was cool the people living on the bike path doing drugs were not. Not the best place to go on a date.
We were here Sunday after Thanksgiving. Nice tree lined trail through the town. Not many people.
