Pretty flat, but all in the woods. Use to live in Titusville and always have to come back once a year atleast. I usually go to Caseys in Oil City for food. Big hill climb in between!
...but it gets you back to the trail. Caseys bar is at the end in oil city. Stop for water and/or food.
First time in the area, and I found this trail on this app and was not disappointed! Take time to see the spillover and have and ice cream before finishing your ride.
While in the area we went to Hydetown to ride the new section, completed Spring 2023. Trail runs from Hydetown and goes North to Road T854. Surface is crushed limestone and approx 2.5 miles in length. Park at Hasbrouck Park in Hydetown and follow signs through town to the trail. Hydetown is very small so the trail is easy to locate.
Connected to the Oil Creek State Park Trail, the Queen City Trail offers a safe bike ride into Titusville. Titusville has trail services such as shopping and restaurants. Paved trail and a few streets, follow the signs.
Enjoy the shade on a hot and sunny July day. Paved trail is 10 miles in length goes through Oil Creek State Park and follows Oil Creek. History was made here in Aug. 29, 1859 when oil was first struck. Trailhead at the North end, just outside of Titusville at Jersey Bridge outside of Drake Well park. Trailhead at the South end in Petroleum Centre near the park office but the road bridge is out and won't be rebuilt until 2026. There is a trailhead on Miller Farm dirt road, mile marker 5 on the trail. Always a beautiful ride though Oil Creek State Park.
Visited on a Monday. It's usually busy on weekdays. We try to ride this trail at least once a year. Trail is a paved loop and some on park roads. Numerous parking lots along the trail. Presque Isle State Park is free, as all Pennsylvania State Parks are. There are 2 lighthouses within the park. Many picnic areas, some with shelters. And modern restrooms in the park. At the entrance there is a burger place / ice cream place. Trail is flat. Not every shaded, most of its full sun. Park has fishing areas, kayak rentals and free beaches. Enjoy the day, or multiple days!
We rode from Orwell to Ashtabula 48 mile round trip (Orwell to Austinburg was 34 round trip) This trail is wide, flat and scenic, mostly shaded woods and farmland. The gates were all open and wide. Frequent but easy road crossings and some root bumps but not bad. Nice benches and port-o-potties every 10 miles.
Early July 2023, biked from Orwell to Austinburg and back for a 35-mile round trip. Went through Rock Creek. A new section of the trial (near Real Alloy) in Rock Creek has been added. No longer will you exit the trail and ride / share the road, through Rock Creek. Now goes straight through. (Constructed Fall 2022). Riding from Orwell to Austinburg there is very little shade. Some trees along the trail aren't enough to shade from the sun, other areas are open through farmlands. Just off the trail in Austinburg is a convenience store for water and a few blocks away a few fast food restaurants.
I would give this trail a 7/10. Pros: well shaded, paved (some bumps from tree roots), good options for parking along the trail. Cons: not much variety of landscape. If I lived close to this trail, I would use it as a nice training ride vs a scenic view adventure ride. Keep in mind i only rode a 10 mile portion of it.
This trail is great for riding on a warm sunny summer day if you're looking for a shady trail! Most of the 5 miles of mainline trail is shaded by a canopy of trees. A few open areas here and there but shaded for the most part. Trail follows French Creek, River of the Year 2022.
